Ep. 14 You're Carrying too Much so Put Your Backpack Down

A few weeks ago I had a busier than usual day and I noticed my brain was freaking out a bit thinking it had to carry all the things in my mind.

I didn't like how that felt and I decided to try something.  Instead of feeling like I had to carry all the things with me all the time, I just 'carried' the thing I was doing in the moment. The other things weren't going to go anywhere and could just figuratively chill in the backpack in the corner of the room.

So I just 'went back for the next thing' in the backpack when it was time, and put the previous one in.

I did this all day and I felt SO much lighter and enjoyed my day more than I had when I felt like I had to carry it all, all day.

My dad was an alcoholic and he loved to talk when he was drunk. He'd usually talk over me if I disagreed with him or had a different perspective. 

So I put myself on mute. Listen in to hear why I did that and what I'm doing differently now because we all need to speak our truths.

I've never been a fan of setting long-term goals. And in the past not reaching the goal meant I was a failure, dumb and was a reflection of my worth.

So I've adopted a new perspective on goals. Instead of focusing on reaching the goal, I ask myself,  "who do I need to be, to be the person who reaches the goal?"
