Fathers Fire

by Jody Sedrick

Are you ready for the greatest adventure of your life? In my weekly podcast, we explore the adventures, challenges, triumphs, sorrows, and the fun of being a dad. I am the father of 6 kids. My wife and I had four and then God blessed us with 2 more through adoption. I think I have a unique perspective and experienceto help fathers become the best dad possible. I also love to interview other men trying to be great dads, step-dads, adopted dads, granddads, and foster dads. Let's help each other become the best men, husbands, and dads possible to leave a legacy that will endure.

252 - Carry Your Own Burden

27m · Published 18 Jan 05:36

For the past couple of days I've been troubled by a post that I saw on Facebook that basically said "Carry Your Own Burden". When I think about the fact that 70% of all suicides are men I think there has to be a better way than "Carry Your Own Burden" or "Pull yourself up by the bootstraps". I explore some thoughts about creating an environment were we can support and love each other through our dark moments and be there for each other.

I'd love to hear your thoughts

Have a blessed day! And be the blessing that someone needs.

Cheers

248 - Working through animosity and ill feelings

13m · Published 15 Dec 16:37

A lot of us men struggle because we are trapped in the swamp of yesterday. We didn't have a father in the home. One of our parents had an addiction problem. ":Parenting" was administered by physical and emotional abuse and a myriad of other reasons that have left you destitute of a positive role model. How do you break the cycle? How do you change the trajectory?

We tend to act out of a place of pride, anger, or fear?

What triggers us?

Do we feel unappreciated?

Do we feel unseen?

Do we feel disrespected? Is that rooted in never having a voice as a child?

You can’t heal what you never reveal! Unveil the mask

A lot of times we are holding on to ill feelings and the other person doesn’t even know, is oblivious, or doesn’t care. So the animosity you feel is cankering your heart and soul

Be the change you want to see

246 - There's NO WAY I'm letting her fail!

8m · Published 20 Nov 00:15

This week I give a shout out to Steve Thompson owner of The Detail Drs in Boise, Idaho. He and his family decided to do 75 hard together. They were doing really well as a family and one of his daughter's missed a day. So what did he do? Rather than let her fail he started over with her. What would you have done? Have a GREAT week! Jody

245 - Don't Isolate Your Wife!

9m · Published 14 Nov 23:27

This week I share some thoughts about taking on the entire weight of the challenges of life on your shoulders and neglecting to include your wife who wants to be part of your life and finding the solution.

I also talk about running into a hurricane of problems and trying to control every aspect as well as stirring up the pot in the name of "solving the problem"

I'd love to hear your thoughts

Cheers

244 - Don't define your life by one moment

17m · Published 07 Nov 13:21

We tend to define our life by a single moment. When in reality it is a series of moments that lead to something tragic or something amazing. A series of moments define our character and who we become. A single moment can ruin a reputation, it can set us on a new trajectory. When we are purposeful in crafting moments we can create a life that is fulfilling and leave a legacy on our children that will last far into their life. What are you doing with the moments you've been given?CheersJody
