Nashville-based, Dynamo fuses jazz, rock, and funk with elements of soul and R&B. Formed in late 2012, Dynamo consists of eight core musicians. When they’re not performing or recording in Nashville, the band is on the road, spreading their unique brand of feel-good music to audiences all over the world.
I would like to mention how Dynamo released a collaborative EP consisting of Vulfpeck's Cory Wong and solo artist, Cody Fry. Both songs were written and featured on Cody Fry's album, Flying. You can tell how Dynamo's style and goals as a band have morphed "Want Me Back" and "Better" incredibly.
I spoke with Ryan Connors, one of Dynamo's piano players, about Dynamo's progress in the industry as well as the collaboration with Cody Fry and Cory Wong. Connors is the featured solo on "Better"! He specifies how each band member is from a different state in the United States, and how they ran into Cody Fry when they attended Belmont University.

Soul and funk band from Austin, Texas, Mingo Fishtrap, is made up of Roger Blevins Jr. on Guitar/Lead Vocals, Chip Vayenas on Drums/Vocals, Dane Farnsworth on Organ/Keyboard, Roger Blevins Sr. on Bass, Steve Butts on Trumpet, and Dan Bechdolt on Tenor Saxophone. With their first album releasing in 1997 and now having a total of six albums, Mingo offers a representation of how you are never too old to be a lover of music and perform like you're young. Inspired by country, rock, jazz, R&B, and pop, Mingo never defines themselves under a specific genre, but what kind of music inspires them to keep on playing.
I spoke with Roger Blevins Jr. about how Mingo has made efforts to stay traditional and change their methods to achieve a balance between authentic and financial success.

Canadian electro-soul and hip hop band from Montreal, Quebec, Busty and the Bass, is made up of powerhouse horn and rhythm sections that do much more than accompany two vocalists. Evan Crofton a.k.a. Alistair Blu (vocals, keyboards, synths), Scott Bevins (trumpet), Chris Vincent (trombone), Louis Stein (guitar), Milo Johnson (bass), Eric Haynes (keyboards, piano) and Julian Trivers (drums) rock every show, big or small.
Their music spans across a wide variety of genres represented in singular collections. Their first album, The Glam, consists of an "intro" and "outro" as well as a variety of feelings in between, like straight-forward energetic tunes "The Real" and "Tryna Find Myself" and deep rap/jazz fusion "Right Kind." That album even includes the same song twice. It is apparent that after listening to many of Busty's songs that they emphasize how to insert as many abstract ideas and sounds and merge them together.
I had a chance to speak with Louis Stein about Busty's main initiatives and what impact they hope to achieve by writing and performing as a group.
Additionally, I mentioned to Stein how randomization was used on their album, Lift.

Jewish sibling duo Clyde (24) and Gracie (21) Lawrence from NYC have entered the music industry by storm. In 2012, Gracie, the soprano, falsetto singer, and Clyde, the raspy alto and keyboardist, formed the band known as Lawrence (the Band) when they drafted in six of their childhood best friends to join them. Their messages of feeling happy, collaboration, supporting each other through hardship, and connecting with someone one by doing something you love, are apparent through their expression on stage and in the music they arrange and produce.
Discovered for their most popular and renowned song, "Do You Wanna Do Nothing with Me?", on their second album, Breakfast, Lawrence’s melting pot of soul, R&B, jazz, and pop has entered the ring of modern pop. Reaching #6 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts, and now with their third album, Living Room, released this past September, fans hope to see their success continue while keeping their "homey" vibe.
