In this episode of The Leaders Who Learn Podcast, hosts Dr. Lynn Priddy and Dr. Joanna Bauer talk with the former Executive Director for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).  Robert talks about police and community relations - what strains those relations and what makes them stronger.  He discusses how police officer training works and how the curriculum is updated to reflect current events.  

Robert Stresak retired as the Executive Director for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). He was responsible for the oversight of 39 POST Certified academies that delivered the state-mandated training standards for new police officers, the development of secured testing procedures and protocols, background investigation standards, in-service training programs, the development and delivery of learning technologies, maintaining effective liaison with State Legislative members, ensuring the timely development of legislatively mandated law enforcement training programs, ensuring the compliance of POST standards with approximately 600 law enforcement agencies within the State of California, and maintaining an effective dialogue among Chiefs, Sheriffs, labor and managerial and academic interests statewide.

Prior to joining Logitech, Mr. Darrell served as President of Whirlpool EMEA and Executive Vice President of Whirlpool Corporation, a home appliance manufacturer and marketing company, from January 2009 to March 2012. Previously, Mr. Darrell had been Senior Vice President, Operations of Whirlpool EMEA from May 2008 to January 2009. From 2002 to May 2008, Mr. Darrell was with the Procter & Gamble Company (P&G), a consumer brand company, most recently as the President of its Braun GmbH subsidiary. Prior to rejoining P&G in 2002, Mr. Darrell served in various executive and managerial positions with General Electric Company from 1997 to 2002, with P&G from 1991 to 1997, and with PepsiCo Inc. from 1987 to 1989. Mr. Darrell holds a BA degree from Hendrix College and an MBA from Harvard University.

Community Trust & Justice - with Deputy Chief Trevor Womack, Stockton, CA PD

The issues that really matter - listen to our hosts interview Deputy Chief of Police, Trevor Womack, of the Stockton, CA PD.  Trevor discusses the Department of Justice / Peace Officer funded study on Community Trust & Justice that Stockton was able to participate in.  The study focuses on procedural justice, racial reconciliation framework, and implicit bias to increase community trust.

Trevor is the second-in-command and responsible for two-thirds of the department's staff and budget, including the field operations division, special operations division, and investigations division - along with more than 30 specialty programs such as air support, canine, crisis intervention team, and the SWAT team.

Bill is an architectural principal and leader in Sasaki’s sports practice. He specializes in athletic and recreation planning and design projects with a particular focus on higher education. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the design and implementation of exceptional projects in the higher education sector.

Phil Valko, Associate Vice Chancellor for Sustainability at Washington University in St. Louis. Phil works with an extensive group of faculty, staff, and students to advance operational sustainability for WashU and to foster the next generation of sustainability/climate leaders. Phil also leads and participates in a number of national and regional partnerships to accelerate climate action and sustainable practice, including serving as the program chair for the Midwest Climate Summit, serving on the University Climate Change Coalition Steering Committee, and co-chairing a St. Louis regional energy & emissions working group. In addition, Phil teaches an interdisciplinary community-engaged course on renewable energy and de-carbonizing the electric grid and regularly guest lectures on a range of topics.
