Crafting Chills - Barbarian

2h 13m · Published 24 Dec 17:00

The final film of our December 'best of 2022' round-up.

A perverted picture, one day destined to be a cult-classic.

Arguably hits its high within the first act, but that speaks more for how bloody good the first part of this film is rather than a lack of quality in the latter.

From here we move into our new month of content.

January = WINTER

Films where the weather plays a crucial role in the story. Think cold, bleak, miserable and oppressive.

Crafting Chills - Fresh

2h 2m · Published 17 Dec 17:00

Keeping things fresh this week with a film of the same name.

Fresh is a delightfully twisted and stylish horror film that further adds to the genre of horror/black comedy.

Find out though whether this film ends up as a tasty treat or rotten to the core.

Crafting Chills - The Night House

1h 27m · Published 12 Dec 19:00

Nyxx and John back in the (night) house!

Episode 2 of a end of year recap month is this lil gem of a horror film, featuring quite possibly, the most unwelcome and uncomfortable jump scare I've... ever seen?! Maybe. Find out whether this is a house worth holding onto or if it should be bulldozed and left alone.

Crafting Chills - Hellraiser (2022)

1h 45m · Published 05 Dec 19:00

Ohhhhhhhh it's a new podcast on IGYE!

I LOVE horror films and after enough in-depth with my friend, Nyxx, I proposed the idea of a podcast where we gush about amazing scary movies.

Thus, Crafting Chills was born!

Each month we'll have a new theme for our film selection. This month, capping off an eventful and especially bountiful year for horror, we're doing a mini 'best of'. From reimagined cult-classics to directorial debuts.

IGYE 26 - Callum Black

1h 30m · Published 23 Aug 18:00

On today's episode I'm joined by Callum Black - globetrotting karate blackbelt.

Callum has lived in Tokyo the past 8 years and in that time has learnt a thing or two about what it means to be a gaijin (outsider) in one of the most culturally different countries in the world. He's also a championship winning karate black belt with views on competing at 'karate's equivalent to the superbowl' in the near future.

He's a fascinating man with lots to say about the realities of living thousands of miles away from home, assimilating into another countries culture and why his passion and dedication towards karate has helped with both of those things.

IGYE 25 - Lorna Ashcroft

1h 46m · Published 19 Jul 18:00

Guess who's back, back again, IGYE back, tell literally everyone.

I think I've used that opening line before... oh well, no one reads these anyway.

LORNA ASHCROFT is on the podcast!

We're chatting about Lorna's late-in-life ADHD diagnosis (which is relative compared to those who are getting their own diagnosis after well past their 50's), and how mapping it backwards she can see how an adolescence of complications could've been better understood as the trappings of ADHD, but instead became all too common masking traits and a sense of being 'less than'.

ADHD diagnosis amongst adults are becoming more and more common, although the infrastructure to get these important tests done are still far from acceptable in terms of time and access to professionals.

If you're interested in learning more about ADHD then there'll almost certainly be local resources available to you, and a conversation with your GP is always recommended. I'm also informed TikTok has a huge ADHD community, so if you're on the tok, go check that out!

IGYE 24 - Tawny Platis

1h 2m · Published 06 Jun 18:00

On today's episode of IGYE I'm joined by comedian, voice-over-artist and podcaster extraordinaire, Tawny Platis.

Tawny hosts the fantastic, Death is Hilarious podcast, which serves as a safe space for those going through grief or the morbidly curious to learn more about how grief can manifest in a person's life and how to navigate it. If that sounds 'a bit much' and quite heavy for a podcast, fear not, because if Tawny was to receive any criticism from her work around death it'd be more likely to be that she isn't taking it seriously enough. But that's the crux of her identity and why her podcast is so wildly popular - in approaching grief with complete honesty and sincerity, Tawny, learnt that humour was integral to her ability to process and manage the intense emotions that come with losing a loved one.

We chat about the inception of her podcast, the story of love and loss which took her down this path and why, if you're suffering with grief, comedy could be an option, but maybe don't go straight into writing stand-up material about it!

IGYE 23 - Sam Walwyn

1h 16m · Published 30 May 18:00

On today's episode I'm joined by London-based singer-songwriter, Sam Walwyn.

If you feel like you're noticing a trend in my guests here, it might be interesting to know that, completely by chance, I'm taking it turns to interview members of a friend group.

You'll hear a bit more about that in the episode itself, but suffice to say, when it comes to the heroic origin stories of musicians, apparently my hunger is not yet satiated.

Sam talks to me all about where his career in music began, whether he's surviving or thriving and how a life-threatening illness changed his perspective on everything.

You can find Sam on all the socials, especially TikTok, by searching his name Sam Walwyn.

IGYE 22 - $kywalker

1h 18m · Published 25 Apr 18:00

On today's episode I'm joined by 20 year old photographer and rapper, Louis Walker aka $kywalker.

Louis is a former pupil of mine and is about to graduate from University. What makes that interesting is that Louis is part of the cohort that had a global pandemic ruin one of the most fascinating personal development periods of any young person's life. We talk about that, how music seeped its way into Louis' creative work and eventually emerged as his main outlet and passion, as well as how mental health due to the pandemic took him to some very dark places.

IGYE 21 - Ally Zlatar

56m · Published 22 Mar 19:00

We're back to back with chats from fascinating women on IGYE

Today's guest is artist-activist, Ally Zlatar.

Ally is a Canadian-born artist currently doing a residency in Jersey with ArtHouse Jersey. She's touring her project 'The Starving Artist'; a candid, honest and often brutal selection of self-portraits that focus on and reveal her reality of living with an eating disorder.

For Ally, her activism is in the form of conversations brought about through using her work as a medium for questions and awareness. She visits schools to chat to students about what eating disorders are, expelling misconceptions and facilitating growth around the subject.

It was such a treat to have Ally on the podcast to talk about her artistic process as well as the importance of the subject matter she focuses on.
