Excessive Rumination back in your life!

On this episode I'm joined by the infectiously happy, Monty Taft.

Monty is a singer/songwriter from Jersey whom I've had the pleasure of working with several times over the last 10 years; from music videos to photoshoots to magazine features. Monty has had success far beyond that, with sets at Glastonbury and Radio 1 play. Despite playing music for the majority of his life, and having attained success within the industry, Monty has chosen to life in Jersey for now and I was curious why. Where does his influence for songwriting come from, what does he want to achieve with music and many more questions, including why he hasn't written a song about being bad at football when he was at school.

Friend of the show, Lee Alexander, pops by for a chat, no more than week since he returned to Jersey after a whirlwind 9 months in Vancouver. Lee is a qualified cocktail mixologist, semi-professional poker player and snowboarding instructor; basically the career aspirations of many a 12-year-old boy.

In this episode we're talking about the adage of 'the grass isn't always greener', and what that means when we apply it to large scale life changes and career choices; how we often project our insecurities into our environment, placing blame in the place rather than ourselves.

Bit of swearing, so block your freakin' ears if that's a concern, but for the rest of you, sit back and enjoy!

We've got a doozy of an episode today!

Joining me in studio is local renaissance man, Rick Jones.

I was introduced to Rick as an incredibly talented and soulful songwriter, but he's known throughout the world as, literally, one of the UK's strongest men. If ever the adage of 'gentle giant' was appropriate, it's here. But don't mistake stoicism and modesty for a lack of conviction, Rick is happy to speak his truth and let others decide how they feel on that. It culminates in a fascinating conversation about life, the natural laws of reality and how we see each other.

Who are 'we'? Co-workers, John Liot and Chris Mutton; one's a Jersey-boy, the other's from the West Country, but both are joined by a love and admiration of the full-English.

What began as a work-place discussion (which we were scalded for conducting during business hours) became a journey, an exploration, to find and review every full-English breakfast available in Jersey.

It's been a minute but Excessive Rumination is back in your ears. In this episode I'm joined by London-based actor, Linda Louise Duan.

Linda is five years into a professional acting career and yet, in such a short amount of time, has already worked with Marvel, acted a stunt performer on Bohemian Rhapsody and is getting pitch meetings with some of the UK's most prominent film and TV producers. She also went to mime school which is both, a thing, and fascinating.

Linda is a friend of mine I met years ago after she responded to an open-casting I put out for headshots during a trip I took to the capital. She's remained a friend ever since and it's been great having her on the podcast.

In this episode of Excessive Rumination I'm joined by the show's first guest, all the way from New York City via the magic of the internet, Jonathan Brookins.

Jonathan is a professional MMA fighter who won the 12th Season of the reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter, in 2010.

In this episode we chat about Jonathan's early career, why he became a fighter, his experience fighting for the world's largest MMA promotion (the UFC) and his spiritual pilgrimage to India after a skid of back-to-back losses in 2011.
