Becoming Minimalist with Joshua Becker

38m · Published 23 May 19:00

“Your life is too valuable to waste chasing and accumulating material possessions.” ~ Joshua Becker

That quote right there just sums it all up for me. While I'm currently living a life FAR from minimalism, the idea that my material possessions are actually detracting  from my life is something I see play out every day. I would MUCH rather spend my time pursing an activity I love (relaxing with a good book, anyone?) or spending quality time with my favorite people rather than fold an ENORMOUS load of laundry because I have too many clothes, or spend an hour picking up/decluttering just so I can clean.

That's why I was so excited to bring Joshua Becker, founder of "Becoming Minimalist", onto my podcast. Joshua has made it his life's work to help and encourage others to "live more with less." He was full of lots of practical advice and tips, including:

  • What is minimalism? What does it look like?
  • What are the benefits of owning (and doing) less?
  • How does one get started? What method do you recommend?
  • Advice for someone who likes the idea but feels too overwhelmed, or has tried decluttering before and “failed.”

Joshua Becker is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today best-selling author of five books: Things That Matter, The Minimalist Home, The More of Less, Clutterfree with Kids and Simplify.

He is the Founder and Editor of Becoming Minimalist, a website dedicated to intentional living visited by over 1 million readers each month. His blog was named by SUCCESS Magazine as one of the top ten personal development websites on the Internet and his writing has been featured in publications all around the world.

He is the Creator of Simplify Magazine and the Founder of The Hope Effect, a nonprofit organization changing how the world cares for orphans. Currently, he lives in Peoria, AZ with his wife and two teenage kids.

How to Get Un-Stuck: A Conversation with Amy Fuentes

42m · Published 09 May 23:00

If you're anything like me, you've felt stuck plenty of times in your life. Maybe you've been trying to reach a goal (weight loss, career change, getting to a new level financially) - and for whatever reason, you seem to plateau. You made a little progress at first but now you can't seem to finish. Or maybe you've been struggling to make a decision. Regardless of the situation...

You're stuck.

There are lots of unique reasons why we as individuals have trouble reaching our goals, but it all boils down to the same thing.

In this episode, Amy Fuentes, speaker, author and coach, explains:

* How people become “stuck” in their lives
* Why the familiar routines of life can sometimes be a hinderance
*What's going on in our brains when we struggle to reach a goal
* How we can get "un-stuck"
*How we can live regret-free and get out of autopilot

About Amy:

Amy Fuentes is an intriguingly thought-provoking speaker, author, entrepreneur, and inventor who inspires others by showing them how to look at life a bit differently. As a result of the hardships she encountered and overcame throughout life, she noticed one common theme… we are only one decision away from a totally different life.

Learning life’s lessons didn’t come easy, but as a result of them Amy achieved some life-altering accomplishments such as producing and hosting a TV special called Stretching Your Dollar; creating a one-of-a-kind product for women’s
restrooms; and helping parents raise money-savvy kids so together they can raise a debt-free, independent, financially responsible generation, one child at a time.

Amy has had many Aha Moments along the way which helped her successfully process financial hardships and life’s transitions. She shares these in her book Words of Wisdom: What you need to know on the road of your life’s journey as
well as in her Aha Moments on YouTube and Facebook.

Compelled to help people navigate their lives, she now shares her insights inspiring others to reimagine their decisions so they can find their voices, change their stories and become their own heros.

Amy lives in Northern Virginia with her husband of 30 years. She enjoys traveling and spending time volunteering with her therapy dog Duncan, bringing joy to those in her community.

In this episode we'll cover:

Meditation Tips for People Who "Can't" Meditate

33m · Published 11 Apr 17:00

Have you tried meditation but didn't stick with it because you weren't good at it? SAME! I tried so many times to start a meditation practice and "failed" every time because I could NOT. STOP. THINKING.  It was super frustrating, because I knew the list of health benefits from meditation was endless - but still, I couldn't seem to do it!

It wasn't until I was formally trained in meditation that I realized, "Hey - I was doing this all along!" Meditation is NOT as hard as our brains try to make it out to be.

In this episode I'll cover:

  • What meditation is
  • The health benefits of meditation
  • How to actually do it
  • My favorite tips for making it easier

Biofeedback: What it is and how it can improve your health, A conversation with Tanille Bruce

1h 0m · Published 04 Apr 19:00

I am ALL about natural, alternative health therapies. One of the things I aim to do with this podcast is to highlight some of these therapies that the average person may not be aware of, so you have a wider variety of choices when it comes to your health. Today, I'm featuring biofeedback and Tanille Bruce, a biofeedback expert joins me to answer all of my questions.

To me, the most fascinating part of biofeedback is how individualized it is. It is designed to look at YOUR body (as opposed to look for specific illnesses) and give you a snapshot of what's going on with you in this present moment.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • What biofeedback is
  • What a typical biofeedback session might look like
  • How trapped emotions can impact your physical body
  • How quantum entanglement can aid biofeedback
  • How biofeedback can empower you in regards to your health

Heart Math: Tap into the Power and Intelligence of Your Heart

29m · Published 28 Mar 18:00

Several years ago, I came across something called Heart Math™ - a method that teaches you how to get your entire body in a state of coherence. The idea is that different patterns of heart activity have different effects on your thoughts and behaviors. Achieving this state of coherence means your bodily systems will be working more efficiently and in a synchronized manner (heart rate will sync with your respiratory rate, will sync with your blood pressure, will sync with your everything else).

I was completely blown away. I LOVE when there is scientific data to back up a claim (there is over 25 years worth of research here)...but I also LOVE the magical, mystical, and loving side of the world. Heart Math™ seemed to marry the two.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • What coherence is and why you want your body to be in this state
  • What HRV is and what it has to do with coherence
  • How to get yourself in a state of coherence (in a matter of seconds!)

Why Resistance is the #1 Thing Keeping You from Reaching Your Goals

14m · Published 14 Mar 16:00

Ahhhhh, resistance. A topic I know ALL too well.

Resistance CAN be beneficial. It makes us stop and assess before doing something potentially dangerous.

However, it can also lure us back into our comfort zones and keep us from reaching our goals.

If you've ever had a goal (i.e., eat healthy, workout more, get to the next level financially or in your business) you've definitely felt resistance at some point.

But how do we keep resistance from pulling us back to our old (comfortable) ways so we can make the changes we need in our lives?

Listen to find out!

How to Get Past Your Ego to Let Your Light Shine :An Interview with Jen Liss

32m · Published 07 Mar 23:00

We've all heard the phrase "Let your light shine" - but for many (particularly more introverted people) shining your light can feel uncomfortable and it's hard to know where to begin.  Our egos get in the way, telling us stories based on past experiences telling us why we can't do this or that and that it's safer to stay hidden.

In this interview with life coach Jen Liss, she gives us tips on:

  • How to begin shining your light
  • Tips for those who feel stuck in life
  • How limitations get placed on our path how we can overcome them

As a successful entrepreneur who left her six-figure business to restart in the name of personal growth, Jen knows the fear that holds achievers back from following the call to fulfillment. Now, she teaches people like her to dip into their well of courage, learn who they really are, redefine their goals, and take a giant leap toward a more aligned life.

On the Untethered with Jen Liss podcast, she interviews people who’ve crafted their own courageous path, including successful entrepreneurs, Emmy Award winning authors,Guinness World Record holders, viral TikTok stars, and guests from shows like LIVE with Kelly and Ryan. Known for her silliness, contagious enthusiasm and engaging storytelling, she’s crafted presentations for the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Speaker Slam, The Society of Professional Communicators and Wichita State University.
