See How Trauma Treatment is Being Revolutionized with the "Flash Technique" with Harroop Sandhu

41m · Published 22 Feb 18:00

Watch Along on YouTube
This week on Therapy Talks, Harroop Sandhu joins Hailey Kanigan to share her passion for EMDR and how successful it can be with clients, especially when used in conjunction with the Flash Technique. The Flash Technique is used to reduce the distress connected to traumatic experiences, making it easier for clients to engage in processing them. Harroop explains that thorough history and understanding of events and experiences of individuals with complex trauma are important, and that the Flash Technique can be used to reduce distress even if dissociation is present. She also highlights that EMDR preparation phases can be used to help clients have some resources to track and notice their disturbance and distress.

We also learn about the emotional impact of trauma, how it can affect children's coping mechanisms, and how epigenetics and the brain and nervous system wiring up early in life can have a significant impact on individuals. Harroop discusses how clients who identify as having privilege may experience guilt around not having to deal with the struggles their parents had to face and how understanding attachment relationships is crucial in helping clients process their experiences.

Harroop's approach is client-centered, focusing on each client's unique strengths and perspectives. She creates a safe, compassionate, and accepting atmosphere, empowering individuals to reach their goals and strengthen their resilience. Harroop encourages clients to bring awareness to their whole self, including body, mind, and spirit, and through a process of awareness, insight, skill building, mindfulness, and warm support, her clients learn to navigate and make sense of challenges.
