Bold & Vulnerable with Jessica & Svetlana: "BANDITS in Bandanas, Product Art & Design, & How to Run a Start-Up with your Partner" - Nicole Humphreys - Episode 048

1h 4m · Published 29 May 17:00

Growing up as the daughter of entrepreneurs in California, Nicole Humphrey's always had that entrepreneurial bug. Her passion for philanthropy had led her to an established career working in nonprofits, but slowly the 9-5 corporate grind began to weigh on her. Upon traveling to Bali, Indonesia for her honeymoon, Nicole fell in love with Balinese people, culture, and artisans. She noticed that everywhere they went, there were expat entrepreneurs who had launched their businesses right there in Bali, and it struck her - why couldn’t that be her? Within one month of returning home, Nicole and her husband Connor quit their jobs, sold all of their worldly possessions, and moved to Bali in search of a new adventure and a new life of entrepreneurship.
Nicole and Connor spent much of their time traversing the island on motorbikes, donning bandanas to guard them from roadway pollution. One day, they realized just how little they know about this staple accessory that they wore everyday. Upon looking for options, all they could find was scratchy cotton, boring patterns, and suspect manufacturing. Thus, the idea for BANDITS Bandanas was born. Building upon Nicole’s extensive work in the nonprofit sector and Connor’s business background, they set out to build a bandana that would spark collaboration, inspire original expression, and create positive change.

About BANDITS:

BANDITS bandanas are the opposite of that scratchy, paisley bandana. Each one features exclusive, original designs by young artists around the world, from illustrators and muralists to textile designers and activists. With each bandana sold, 10% of proceeds are donated to a charity chosen by the artist who designed it. Additionally, they are Fair Trade Certified and are ethically handmade from sustainably-sourced, ultra soft, 100% Organic Cotton.

Only 2 years after launching, Bandits has created over 40 different artist-designed bandanas that have helped them donate over $58K in give back funds to artist-chosen charities across the world. Their bandanas can currently be found in Huckberry, Paper Source, REI and over 200 independent retailers across the country, or online at banditsbandanas.com. In 2020, high demand has increased the company’s year-over-year sales by 200%.

Bold & Vulnerable with Jessica & Svetlana: "Mind Leadership & Finding Peace amidst the Chaos" - Dwayne Smith & Jennifer Bitner - EPISODE 046

1h 0m · Published 22 Feb 10:00

JENNIFER BITNER:
Mental Performance Coach & co-host of The Mind Leadership

I have lived my life on both sides of the hustle. One side that led to anxiety, overwhelm and burnout; and the other- more of a humble hustle, that was fueled by passion, joy, and purpose. I spent 11 years of my corporate career working in the fitness industry for the largest chain of fitness clubs in Canada. I started my career in sales and quickly moved up the ladder to General Manager by the age of 23. I was a top performer, driven by success, accolades, and recognition. I thrived with goals and competition and was always chasing the next award.

Eventually, my overachieving and unhealthy drive led me to a dis-eased state of mental health. When I was 22 I was riddled with severe anxiety and panic attacks. I lived with two identities— this performer, goal crusher, and high energy leader… and, this broken and burnt out skeleton of who I once was. I finally decided something needed to change. I spent a decade of healing and recovering from unbalanced mental health.

I have now written and published a book called “Just A Girl With Anxiety”, detailing my journey and recovery process; I teach Mind Fitness techniques & am hired to speak to companies across the country on how success can be healthy, and teach natural approaches to mind wellness. I believe you can achieve your goals, dreams, and aspirations, without being left feeling stressed, exhausted, and defeated.

I am here to teach you how to find peace amidst the chaos and bring joy + healthy success back into your days!

DWAYNE SMITH:
Leadership Development Coach, co-host of The Mind Leadership & member of the John Maxwell Leadership Team

I’m a certified public speaker and a mastermind group facilitator. I have been in a leadership role for over 17 years. ⁣
I graduated from college with a business marketing degree and moved into one of the largest companies in Canada. In my career, I have embraced my growth by developing myself in the art of leadership. ⁣ By managing large teams, I’ve learned in my career that leadership is action, and living by leader principles daily requires a great deal of intention. ⁣

My journey has shaped my decision to be a part of The Mind Leadership because I have come to understand that between the tools we are provided and our intentions lies a thing called execution. Our execution is at its best when we are aware of our strengths and how to leverage them to our advantage. ⁣Our minds dictate how we operate and it’s our minds that we need to develop to be welcoming of new ideas, knowing who we are and how we become our best selves. ⁣

Bold & Vulnerable with Jessica & Svetlana: "The Core Value Equation & Becoming a Crazy MAD Scientist CEO"- Darius Mirshahzadeh- Episode 045

1h 4m · Published 25 Jan 11:00

Now, if you're more into the traditional braggy vanity metrics around success, I'm an Inc. 500 CEO, ranked number 40 in Inc. 500 in 2007, with 2500% plus revenue growth in three years of my business, Twin Capital Mortgage. I was ranked #9 in Glassdoor's Top Ranked CEO's in America for small to medium businesses. I have participated in many great programs, such as Birthing of Giants at MIT, Gathering of Titans at MIT, and I am a graduate of the World Renowned Stagen Integral Leadership Program.

I've spoken on some big stages. I was a TEDx curator. I did TEDx Golden Gate Park in 2011 and 2012 at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. I'm a crazy mad scientist CEO. I've grown companies from startup to just under a thousand employees in under three years, and I'm an expert at core values. I am very proud of my book, The Core Value Equation. If none of that impresses you, so be it.

I can make a damn good pizza, and my last meal on earth will be a pepperoni pizza from Pizzetta 211 in San Francisco with a cheese board salad, a slice of flourless chocolate cake, hand-whipped cream and with a Blue Moon beer. Peace. I love you.

My purpose is to live a poetic life – a life of true engagement that helps others learn and reach their potential.

What do you want to know about me? I'm a dad, husband, twin, brother, and son. I am grateful to have such an amazing family who loves me despite my loco craziness—born and raised in Cali. Now I live in Austin, Texas. I'm a serial entrepreneur, author, conscious capitalist, speaker, and entertainer. I'm all about the P's: Passion, Pizza, Puzzles, and especially Pink Unicorns. I am all about creating greatness in the world.

My passion is to make the world a better place, using my talents and engagement. My top six core values are happiness, which I call heart. Love, which I call Besos. Passion, which I call "Eye of the Tiger. Curiosity, which I call Cinco. Creativity, which I call BOOM. Last but not least, balance, which I call Movie Night. The reason I call it that is because my family and I watch movies together every Friday night.
