Find Your Magic

by Kelsey Formost

Welcome to Find Your Magic, the podcast where entrepreneurship and mental health meet! If you found your way here, it’s no accident...maybe you have a hunch that your work should be more fulfilling, that your relationships should be more supportive, that your days should be more joyful, or maybe you’re nervous to take the leap into a new chapter of life. If any of that sounds like you, you’re in the right place. I’m your host, Kelsey Formost: marketing expert, mental health advocate, founder of Magic Words Copywriting, and resident word nerd. This safe, kind, (& fun!) space is full of meaningful conversations with successful entrepreneurs, creatives, experts, and friends, exploring what it really takes to forge your own path and build a life you love. My guests and I talk about allllll the things; from actionable business advice, to the creative process, to mental health, and everything in between. We’re here to show you that you don’t have to FEEL brave to DO brave things. If you show up for these vulnerable conversations, it means you’re ready to invite more magic into your career and your life. You, my friend, are a Magic Maker and I’m so grateful you’re here.

67. Breaking up with problematic clients (and how to prevent them in the first place) w/copywriter Brittany McBean

50m · Published 05 Jul 07:00

Breaking up (with problematic clients) is hard to do! In this episode, my guest – the delightful copywriter Brittany McBean – chats with me about the mental health toll needy or problematic clients can take on freelancers and service providers.

We're ALSO chatting about how she uses airtight contracts and a buttoned-up client onboarding system to make sure everyone's boundaries are respected and the best possible work is delivered.

Brittany McBean is a launch strategist & conversion copywriter who specializes in anti-sleazy, ethical, high-converting copy for online course creators & educators. She believes that Black lives matter now and always, marketing needs to help, not harm, and that it's our responsibility to use our platforms to build up, magnify, and support historically and systemically marginalized people. Through her research-based strategy and copy, she helps industry leaders like Rick Mulready, Brandi Mowles, and Lattice Hudson run multi 6 & 7 figure launches and funnels through clear messaging and ethical marketing practices. She'll talk just to hear herself talk, but you'll get the least nonsense out of her if you want to talk about ethical marketing, launch strategy, her journey with infertility & mental health, and open adoption. She believes in the Oxford comma and will fight you on it.

66. How to release judgement, accept help, reject shame, and embrace the full spectrum of experience; with Creator Cee Topacio

40m · Published 28 Jun 07:00

This is probably the most tender, authentic conversation we've had on the pod to date about mental health. Content advisory; Cee and I talk about difficult topics, dark nights of the soul, depression, and more. I REALLY hope you stay but if you need to skip this one to take care of yourself, we understand.

One of the most difficult things creative entrepreneurs face is JUDGEMENT; judegement we receive from others, from our social systems, from strangers on the internet...but perhaps, most difficultly, from OURSELVES.

In this episode, Cee and I talk about the bravery it takes to forge your own path, bet on yourself, and listen to intuition when you think you need help.

This is a kind, safe space- if you're feeling like you need emotional support, please don't hesitate to seek professional help, and also to seek support from this community. We've built a wonderful corner of the internet, Magic Makers. I'm stupid grateful for you.

64. How to stop judging yourself and turn your idea into reality, with Betsy O'Brien

38m · Published 15 Jun 20:00

Betsy "Bets" O'Brien cold DM'ed me months ago asking for advice on how to start her podcast. We met up for a blind friend date at a local coffee shop, and at the time, all she had was an idea...

Cut to 6 months later, Bets has consistently recorded and shared her podcast The Bets Life, growing a loyal listener base and talking about everything that affects Millenial women; from fashion to polycystic ovary syndrome (we both have it!).

In this conversation, we're talking about how to build a personal brand that is authentic to you while still being "professional," how to stop judging yourself when you're a beginner, and how to have the confidence you need to turn your ideas into a reality.

Betsy's blog "The Bets Life" (along with links to her social and podcast) can be found and followed at: https://thebetslife.com/

63. WTF is a 'mindset' anyway? With holisitic business coach Alecia St. Germain

45m · Published 24 May 07:00

I met Alecia a few years ago when we were both speaking at a summit for women in business. I immediately felt like we were friends, appreciating that she was a badass entrepreneur who also had a spiritual side. Here's the thing; I absolutely KNOW in my bones that the energy we put into the world is the energy we get back. And yet I absolutely do NOT agree with coaches who say "just change your mindset and make more money". Like...no. I've been seeing SO MUCH of this "mindset" speak around the internet that I asked Alecia to come on the pod today to tell us what a mindset actually IS, how we can pay better attention to our thoughts, and how we can start incorporating our thoughts with our bodies to create a more fulfilling daily life. Her official bio: Alecia St. Germain is a Certified Immunity to Change Coach, Soul Purpose Oracle, and founder of The Conscious Edge – a leadership and personal development company focused on empowering female entrepreneurs to leverage their time and expertise efficiently to build multiple-six and seven-figure businesses. After training more than 10,000 entrepreneurs, Alecia knows that strategies and tactics are only a small part of creating wealth and happiness. Merging methodologies of modern science and ancient wisdom, she helps her clients uncover and transform their unconscious beliefs, while creating alignment between mind, body, and soul. Nothing lights her up more than seeing her clients confidently shatter their income ceilings, reclaim their time, and step boldly into their roles as leaders.
