Feb 26- Fly around the water tower

There comes a time when you put all of your preparation, homework, research, and practice sessions behind you and simply ply your trade. In this week's episode, Mike shares a story originating back to the days when he became a single engine airplane pilot. After failing a particular maneuver under testing conditions a number of times the instructor emphatically told Mike to forget everything he learned in the book for the moment. She told Mike to simply bring the aircraft back to its starting point and fly around the water tower keeping it positioned below the left wing.

Mike promptly did just that.

I think in this episode you will clearly get the message and remember it for a long time to come.

A Brief Marketing Quiz

I am currently conducting eight sales and marketing sessions for an organization in the travel industry and I thought that I would take some time today to review the associated brief marketing oriented quiz.

At the end of each session, I distribute handouts along with a few questions to help solidify the information shared during my program. This is the first time I'm trying something like this in one of my podcasts, so let me know if you feel it is beneficial to you. I'm planning on sharing the sales quiz next week.

Procrastination Is a Time Waster

I fell victim recently to this time-sapping phenomenon. We build things up in our mind and put them off until we feel the time is right. The right time seldom presents itself. Beginning a project and seeing it through to completion will have you doing your "happy dance" before you know what hit you.

The good news is that my bathroom is now painted and I am waiting for the next project to surface. Hopefully I will remember today's message and avoid procrastinating.

Snail Mail May Be The Secret Pill

This week's episode suggests that sending your information, recommendations, suggestions and notes of gratitiude may be the secret to the hidden formula. People still look forward to gooing to their mail boxes to see if there is any good news lurking among the bills and advertisements.

Consider budgeting a few extra dollars on postage in the coming year and check this marketing gambit out for yourself. I think you just might surpise yourself with some very positive results.

Becoming Just a Little Bit Better

This week Mike borrows from a golf lesson administered by Tiger Woods as an example of how refining ones professional position often calls for a simple modification. He also recalls the 1.6% rule that he invented having watched downhill skiers compete in the Nagano Japan Olympics, a few years back.

Where many entrepreneurs go wrong is when they feel they have to be twice as good as their competition. This simply is not the case. Nor is it possible. All you have to do is find a few areas that need improvement and focus on developing the skills related to those behaviors.

Get Other People Talking

It became glaringly apparent this week that the majority of people today have a need to talk, share and be heard. I have always known but this week I once again saw it in action. I stopped in to visit one of my neighbors (90 years old) and in twenty minutes I think I might have said five words. There is a good chance that you know a handful of people like this.

Referring to another neighbor Bob Chamow, I still don't know much about him. He knows a lot about me. This week I try to remind you how easily you can position ypourself as the "go-to source" by simply getting away from you"and begin focusing on your audience. Bob was a successful salesman in his day there is no doubt.

This may sound absurdly simple but trust me, it is not. Asking questions is a valuable skill; one which will pave your way to professional salesmanship with litle question or need for apology.

My four word sales mantra is all you need to guide and fuel your forward progress. GET OTHER PEOPLE TALKING.

We All Make Mistakes And Are Approachable

For those of you who listened to last week's episode, you heard Mike stumble as his memory failed him while remembering his famous 12 Word Marketing Plan.

Get up, get out, and make more people glad they know you. (12 words) A listener soon called in, and had fun with Mike kibitzing over his memory loss. The message was clear, however. We are all in this thing together, and we all are prone to making mistakes now and then. Do not hesitate for a moment to contact people. They are no different than you and me. And they are all approachable. (Get out there.)

The second message today reminded us of the huge opportunity we have when answering the phone or making initial impressions. According to Mike, the competition is very poor at this, and the opportunity for you to shine is enormous.

We Are All Writers
