180 - Simplifying your business

1h 3m · Published 12 Oct 13:00

This week, we wanted to record an episode about simplifying your business, but also share how we look at a topic that might become one of our coaching sessions or a bigger article/video.

If you like hearing how the proverbial sausage is made then you are going to LOVE this one! We walk through how we take an idea and concept and break it down, answer our own questions, and create frameworks that we can teach.

We hope you learn something that you can apply to whatever skill you teach people AND some business simplification tips! Also, maybe a few walrus bucks or muffin hair laughs??

This week, we share a pretty big update as it’s the future of our focus in our work!

We sat down last week and had a 3-hour brainstorming meeting that resulted in coming to a decision about our monthly coaching plans for WAIM Unlimited (our un-boring coaching program) AND our small side business Teachery (an online course platform).

In this ep, we share all the conversations we had and how we’re embracing feeling like JCVD straddling those semi trucks! We’re excited about “Project ALL-IN” in 2024 and hope you’re excited to go along on the ride with us.

178 - 4 lessons for your next big project

43m · Published 28 Sep 13:00

Last week, we announced one of our biggest content projects to date, the Calm Business Encyclopedia: 26 YouTube videos and articles that are an A-Z guide to helping you build a more predictable, profitable, and peaceful business.

This week, we wanted to reflect on a few of the biggest takeaways we learned while taking on this monster of a project. Things like acceptance of how we work, the importance of extra project time, finding your motivators, and ignoring what other people are doing!

We hope this episode is helpful and gives you some useful insights for whatever you’re working on next.

177 - Introducing…Calm Business Encyclopedia!

52m · Published 21 Sep 13:00

After 5 weeks of hard work, we’re excited to announce our big content project! While it might not look like much in the first few days as we’re releasing content daily, after 26 days it will be a rich library (heyo!) of information to help you build a more predictable, profitable, and peaceful business.

In this episode, we talk about getting to the first finish line of the Calm Business Encyclopedia. But, that first checkered flag is only one of many and we still have a ways to go.

How have our emotions changed throughout this project? And what are we hoping this project does for us? We talk about these things and much more!

176 - How we got out of the "video mud" by ignoring the blueprints

58m · Published 14 Sep 13:00

PHEW! We made it out of the “video mud” we were stuck in last week and we have a solid plan of action moving forward for recording 26 YouTube videos.

In this episode, we talk about finally getting into a groove, the power of doing something YOUR way (not following a blueprint), how to get a jolt of momentum in a big project, and why you can feel creative restlessness when you’ve been running your business for a few years.

Tune in to future episodes for updates and on September 18, our 26 days 😉 of content will start being published!

175 - Our worst day of filming videos ever (OOF!)

1h 21m · Published 07 Sep 13:00

We’ve created 200+ email newsletters, 175 podcast episodes, and 47 3-hour video coaching sessions, and NONE of those things cause us grief when collaborating. But the 15 scripted educational YouTube videos we’ve created together have ALWAYS been a problem for us. This week was no different 😩.

Two days before recording this podcast ep, we were getting ready to record the first videos for our 26-day content blitz. Caroline had painstakingly taken time to write the initial video scripts and we sat down to punch them up together (read: add “un-boring” moments). That started a cascade of discussions, which led to 5 hours of trying to figure out why we have so much friction while recording YouTube videos. Needless to say, ZERO videos were recorded.

In this episode, we’ll share what went wrong, how we worked through the “mud,” what our solution was, and what we learned throughout this process that we hope might help you in your biz! Maybe?? 😂😂

Tune in to future episodes for updates and on September 18, our 26 days 😉 of content will start being published!

174 - Avoiding burnout during big projects

1h 14m · Published 31 Aug 13:00

This week, we talk about everything we’re doing to steer clear of our old friend burnout. Our 26 new articles and accompanying YouTube videos are a daunting task and we’re FULLY in the thick of the project at this point.

One of the most helpful things we do during a big project like this is to focus on “good enough.” Now, that’s not easy, because we’re both recovering perfectionists (who haven’t fully recovered - LOL). However, we are implementing a few guardrails to help with this go-round.

173 - Why we love 30-day challenges and our next one

1h 6m · Published 24 Aug 13:00

One of the best ways you can get over imposter syndrome, build a skill quickly, or drum up marketing attention is through a 30-day content creation challenge.

In this episode, we’ll share why we think 30-day challenges are great for growing your biz and we’ll share the reality of how much work they can take. And yes, our content challenge is 26 days, not 30, but it’s cool if we round up, right??

We’ve done different 30-day challenges over the years but it’s been quite a while since we’ve focused on recording consistent YouTube videos and writing helpful business articles. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do for the next 4 weeks as a lead-up to our Fall Enrollment for WAIM Unlimited.

Tune in to future episodes for updates and on September 18, our 26 days 😉 of content will start being published!

172 - The next big move with our software product (and NEW segment!)

52m · Published 17 Aug 13:00

This week, we go through a big move we’re making with our software product Teachery. For the first time, we have a pretty big change in our new user signup process! We’ve created 7 pre-designed course themes to get someone up and running much faster with their online course. We’re also moving our marketing site to Webflow so we have more control over marketing content, landing pages, etc. We’ll keep you posted on the progress!

We also introduced a new segment called Calm Business Confidential where each of us brings an interesting calm business to the podcast without telling the other person about it before recording (hence, the confidential part 😘). Hope you enjoy the new segment and learning about calm businesses that aren’t billion dollar companies trying to change the world.

Last but not least, we update you on our summer in Portugal, including spending 3 weeks with Caroline’s Mom, road-tripping to the Douro Valley wine region, and an update on our residency card status.

171 - Dinosaur Park, AI Thoughts, A Cool Tool, and Summer of SaaS

54m · Published 08 Jun 13:00

We ventured to the Dinosaur Park (basically an outdoor museum) in our local town and boy-oh-boy was it just great! Portugal continues to win over our hearts, especially in our small town of Lourinhã!

In this episode, we go over how and why we take sabbaticals from content creation (we’ll be back in August 👋), we chat just a little bit about AI and some thoughts we’ve been having on it, we share our favorite new video editing tool (linked below), and we go over what we’re doing this summer while on a break.

Hope you enjoy this more random-style podcast from us and we’ll be back in August!
