End the Silence - Guest Natasha Burger RN

37m · Published 26 Feb 20:00

Natasha Burger is a Registered Nurse in Alberta Canada and has dedicated nearly 30 years of service in the nursing profession.  Her long list of experience and expertise will blow your mind, but it's a reality of many nurses and one of the perks of the profession.  Nursing never is boring and there's endless opportunities to change paths, and Natasha has seen many of them.

Through all of her experience she found herself forced to step away from bedside nursing... forced by her own body.  Her body that demanded she slow down.  That she take time to process, to feel, and to heal.

We walk through not only what burnout in nursing has looked and felt like for Natasha but the systemic let downs that contribute to the personal sense of failure and inadequacy that happens often when nurses are struggling, and some that are just barely surviving.

We talk about the burden that nursing carries for us as women and mothers and the never ending struggle to achieve this ever elusive balance we're all seeking  in life and how money and time become the weights that tip the scales of that balance.

You simply must listen until the very end as the conversation becomes very raw and exposes one of the darkest risks to burnout and the resulting depression.  Warning this could be triggering for some of you.  But the message is that you are not alone.  We are here.  We are sharing our stories to END THE SILENCE.

The wisdom and strength Natasha displays is remarkable and inspiring and her courage to share her truth is a beacon of light for all nurses everywhere.

End the Silence - Guest Sarah Bohachyk

29m · Published 12 Feb 17:00

Sarah Bohachyk is a Registered Nurse in Alberta Canada and has worked in the Emergency Department for over 10 years.  She is also completing her Masters of Nursing Degree through Athabasca University.

In 2016 Sarah started experiencing symptoms of trauma, and in 2019 she experienced another traumatic injury at work that triggered Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, leaving her unable to work, and at times barely managing day to day living.

She has been off work for most of 2020 due to her PTSD injury and the lengthy recovery and healing process of trauma and she is now looking to improve the lives of other nurses who are also struggling.

Sarah has teamed up with other nurses to start the Nurse to Nurse Peer Support Organization, hoping to have it's approval for non-profit status in the very near future.  They are supporting nurses via online meetings and support in an effort to bridge the gap in the services offered and provided to nurses who are suffering with mental health injury.

Welcome to the End the Silence Podcast Trailer.

This podcast, hosted by Sandra Payne owner of Sandra Payne Wellness and founder of the Nurse RX Coaching Program, is a space for nurses to share their struggles, successes and their stories with the world.

Nurse's everywhere are struggling with burnout, depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, and suicidality and many of them struggle in silence.

The mission of Sandra Payne Wellness and the End the Silence podcast is to give nurses back their voice.  To share their stories of being a nurse in our world today is REALLY like.

Spoiler... it's not glamorous like you might think.

We all know a nurse, whether it's our mom, daughter, sister, wife, or friend and if you don't know one, you will most definitely need one at some juncture in your life, and it's time we start caring for them.

Nurses are the heart of our health care system, and if the heart is not doing well, then the entire system is going to eventually fail.  We cannot afford for this to continue.

Support our nurses by following this podcast and sharing the episodes so that their stories and their voice can be heard.
