Adam's back pain became so severe that he was told to give up sports and heavy lifting, leading to much despair. He was told that the pain he was experiencing would be with him for the rest of his life and that he simply had to learn to 'manage' it - until he found Sarno's Healing Back Pain. Adam learnt that the body is not a machine, but something that is deeply influenced by the mind and through this knowledge he finally found relief.
