Let's talk: ADVICE FROM A TRANSFER STUDENT (the good, bad and ugly)

25m · Published 22 Jul 18:39

Ep. 8: ways to get involved to maximize your experience + housing options + class workload and how to be smart about it ⠀

⠀⠀

Today on the show I interviewed Rob! Rob is a rising senior at the University of California, Berkeley. He transferred from a community college in Cupertino, California and is originally from Ontario, Canada! ⠀

On today’s episode, Rob opens up about his experience as a transfer student - the pros, cons, struggles and advantages. He talks to us about ways to get involved in clubs, making friends, asking help but most importantly remembering your ‘WHY.’ ⠀

Rob knows it’s normal to feel lost/lonely in a completely new environment, and in those times, it’s extremely crucial to remember why you decided to transfer and what you’re ready to gain from your journey. He also talks to us about the importance of study groups and the idea of exploring and NOT simply overloading yourself with classes your first year.⠀

Rob gives us great advice on how to tackle tough situations and what he learned from ‘snakes’ in his school. ⠀

Even if you're not a transfer student, I highly recommend listening to this episode. Rob gives us SO much value and mentions some key takeaways that we MUST take note of.⠀

PS -  Rob and I also talk about our experience with the Nigerian Student Association at Cal, so stay tuned to listen to a short, fun story on how I was introduced to the NSA —IN MY DORM……...all it took was that one song! ⠀

Ep 7. Let's talk: PRODUCTIVITY AS A STUDENT WITH SIDE HUSTLES

16m · Published 14 Jul 15:59
Today, I chatted with Mary, a student who is currently studying nutrition at Drexel University. Mary has been a dancer her whole life and only recently she became a certified Barre instructor. Her love for food and health has given her the opportunity to create her own page called ‘Sprinkling of Heath’ where she shares her love for nutrition and promotes self love and confidence.     Mary talks to us all about the importance of productivity while being a student with side hustles. She understands that it's okay to have rest days and sometimes they’re absolutely essential in order to be more productive. We also dive deep into some productivity tips that both Mary and I have been using in our daily quarantine routine and TRUST ME, I’ve seen some significant changes in my level of productivity! Mary also talks to us about consistent routines, the benefits of having a planner and the idea of fully utilizing ‘work breaks’ that can highly affect your productivity.     Let’s be honest, we’re all struggling to be productive during quarantine, especially students. This is why taking some time to clear your mind is SO important. But if you NEED to get work done and are struggling to push yourself, then make sure to listen to this episode and try all the strategies mentioned!     I know you're going to love them! ;)       CONNECT WITH SAGRIKA:   Instagram: @theletstalkpod https://www.instagram.com/theletstalkpod/   Website: https://letstalkpodcast.net/   Make your website now: https://www.bluehost.com/track/theletstalkpodcast/

Ep 6. Let's talk: SUCCESS STORIES WITH MARIA

15m · Published 07 Jul 16:39

On today's episode, I interviewed Maria about her journey! Maria was born in Casa Blanca, Morocco and a year later she moved to Italy where she began to embrace both cultures. She hopes to create a positive impact through her thoughts, feelings and experiences while exploring topics from culture, art to a bit of poetry! Other than that, she is a brand consultant, and freelance in digital marketing and content creation. She is also an ethical entrepreneur whose love for the ocean has inspired her to start her own sustainable luxury swimwear brand called Maari Eco-swim.

This conversation really helped me understand that no path is ever too smooth. Life's a game of trial and error that teaches you so much along the way. Maria’s story was one with personal and professional struggles as well, but she continued to remain positive and brainstorm ways in which she could add value! She knew she wanted to improve the entire system in the fashion industry but not adhere to it. AND this is when after learning and applying, she went a step further and successfully created HER own swimwear fabric out of fishing nets!

I absolutely loved getting Maria 's perspective on creating her business from scratch! I learned that it's important to think of ourselves as a possibility. We’re all on this planet to accomplish what we want and she believes that small actions day by day will eventually add to big changes! I can’t wait for you guys to listen to this success story!

Ep 5. Let's talk: GRATITUDE AND STAYING POSITIVE

16m · Published 30 Jun 16:32
EPISODE 5 IS HERE!     I’m so excited to share this episode with you because it's truly one of my favorites! I talked with the lovely Awele, my high school friend and MENTOR! On this week’s episode, she talks to us all about gratitude, staying positive and creating your own reality with the power of words. Awele started her journey in 2017 when she tried everything but always got the same results. She finally decide to take control of her life and began reading  books on positivity and mindfulness, and understood that when you FOCUS on what you have, and become grateful for it, there is NO room for negativity.     She gives us some valuable insights on how we can stop having expectations, negative self talk, and most importantly, how we can stop comparing our lives to what we see on social media. Awele is truly an inspiration for those wanting to start their journey. She knows that digging deep into the raw, uncomfortable parts of yourself is the first step in being honest with who you are. This episode is a must for anyone who wants to focus their energy on being more grateful!     CONNECT WITH SAGRIKA:     Instagram: @theletstalkpod https://www.instagram.com/theletstalkpod/   Website: https://letstalkpodcast.net/   Make your website now: https://www.bluehost.com/track/theletstalkpodcast/
