Episode 20 - On Being a Podcaster

59m · Published 30 Jun 19:17

Hey gang!  We made it to the end of my first podcasting season!!! I want to do a couple of things with the Season 1 Finale:

     1. I want to do a season in review, of sorts. I want to do a refresher of the previous 19 episodes and my key takeaways from each episode.

     2. I want to share what I’ve learned through the creation, production, marketing and scheduling of the podcast. I’d actually consider this to be   another episode of our “On Series”… so this episode will be “On Being a Podcaster”.

I present to you the Top 10 Things I’ve Learned about Transitions from Being a Podcaster:

     10. Sometimes you have to ask for help

     9. Understand Your Purpose

     8. What’s your goal

     7. Understand what you’re really committed to

     6. Harness creativity by adhering to a schedule

     5. You have to maintain safety and self-care at all times

     4. It’s all about the community

     3. Awareness is a must

     2. You have to align your words, your intentions and your actions

     1. Humility doesn’t have to be defined – but it has to be present

I was not alone this inaugural season. I want to sincerely thank my guests that believed, supported, taught, inspired, and encouraged us for the past 5 months!!!!

     · Lucy Coelho

     · Clint Genett

     · Laurie Mulligan

     · Tammy Parrish

     · Steve Reimann

     · Lynn Watkins-Asiyanbi

     · Sarah Zadigan

Episode 19 - Where Does Humility Come In? (Part 2)

57m · Published 23 Jun 17:29

If you like last week's conversation, you're going to love how Steve Reimann, Sarah Zadigan, and I wrap-up the conversation on "humility" this week. The "Humility All-Stars" absolutely killed it!

This is what we covered in the conclusion of this 2-part conversation on humility:

     * Where does or where can humility go wrong

     * Practical strategies to practice humility

     * Love songs or songs of faith and humility

And here's a recap of our wrap-up conversation on humility - you know stuff we actually talked about:

+ You have to be aware of yourself, your community and your environments (conclusion)

+ Distinguish personal or professional arena – humility can playout and be rewarded/received differently (conclusion)

+ Three bench-marking questions from Lou Holtz: Can I trust you? Are you committed to excellence? Do you care about me?

Ultimately, humility is NOT about you. It is about your focus on others – or not. And that includes your intentions, the words you use, your actions and ultimately your results.  Humility is NOT knowing.  Sometimes to thrive in the transition you have to give up knowing. You have to sit with things. You have to get support. You have to ask for help.

And speaking of help, Steve dropped some very practical tips on how to practice humility more – or at least to be more aware:

     * Explore and document your top values

     * Build a personal mission statement

     * Identify what feeds your ego versus what builds humility

     * Engage those around you

Episode 18 - Where Does Humility Come In? (Part 1)

48m · Published 17 Jun 01:19

Now this is one for the record books!!!  I can't wait for you to hear this one as we talk about humility with Steve Reimann and Sarah Zadigan.  This one is so good that we made it two parts!!! Be sure to tune in next week for the the conclusion.

This is what we covered in part 1 of this 2-part conversation:

* The definition of “humility”

* The language of transitions

* Why humility is important in transitions

Here's a quick recap of our conversation on humility – up to this point:

+ The language we use frame humility and transitions is everything

+ Don’t spend too much time in your head – perceived problems tend to grow and expand

+ When you move focus from others – you focus on self

+ Distinguish personal or professional arena – humility can play out and be rewarded/received differently (intro)

+ You have to be aware of yourself, your community and your environments (intro)

Remember to tune in next week for the conclusion of this brilliant conversation around humility.  If you get something from this podcast please give us a rating of 5-Stars where ever you listen to your podcasts.  You can find full episodes of Thriving in the Transition on my website:  https://www.logiqconsulting.com/podcast

Episode 17 - The Power of Flexibility and Adaptability

1h 11m · Published 09 Jun 21:42

This one came down to the wire!!! But it's totally worth it!  This week we talk to Clint Genett - just an amazing person.  We had a great discussion about the power of flexibility and adaptability.  Clint even sang for us!!!!  It was amazing.  Anyway, here are the highlights:

· Embrace vulnerability

· Change is 100% constant

          o See and accept change

o Within all change exists the opportunity to grow, expand and connect with others

o Change is there to work for us NOT against us

· Don’t focus on the door that has closed – you may miss all the doors that are opening

· Practice makes progress

o And exact goals can take away from learning adaptability/flexibility

          o It’s about incremental growth

· Connection is a birth right

· In all shades of grey, there exists light

· You power is determined your mindset

· Creativity can be fostered by routine

· Courage means sharing your voice and your authentic self with the world

· Embrace the change ( and/or transition) for what it could be versus what it appears to be

· Self-love needs to be your number one companion

There were so many relevant points in that conversation – they just kept coming. And I enjoyed every – single – moment. I just hope that you found as many things to take away as I did. And if you paid any attention to my conversation with Clint, I promise you will Thrive in the Transition.

Episode 16 - Being Comfortable with Discomfort

1h 19m · Published 02 Jun 20:02

This week's episode was all about "being comfortable with discomfort".  I was joined by friend and "well'practiced transitioner", Sarah Zadigan. Here's a quick recap of our conversation as it pertains to being comfortable with discomfort:

· Growing Pains – the mental pains of growth mirror the physical pains of growth

     o Continual Evolution

· We have changed the language of transition – that it’s bad

     o Vulnerability

· Practice

     o Mindfulness and being present

· Have faith in yourself and in your goal

· Surround yourself with people that will honor your transition

· “If you fail… fail while daring greatly” Teddy Roosevelt

· The opinions of the people NOT in the arena with you don’t matter

o Sometimes you he to Marie Kondo the people in your life

· Express gratitude

· Choose to make the language of transitions positive vs negative

· Transitions are periods of vulnerability

o Strengths and vulnerability are NOT mutually exclusive

· Be aware of the feeling of uncomfortable

o Is it simply your growth

o Is it that you are growing away from those in your arena

· Changing goals is NOT the same as quitting

o Quitting means I’m not willing to put the work in

· If yourself grace and to accept the transition for all that it has to offer

There was so much goodness in that conversation.   I’ll simply segue by saying -  leverage these points and my conversation with Sarah to Thrive in the Transition.

Episode 15 - Inspiration

54m · Published 27 May 00:08

Today's episode almost didn't happen!  I had lots of ideas for the episode, but nothing that fit. That is until my wife  told me, "Don't worry, inspiration will hit - it always does." Thus, this episode on inspiration was born! And in the episode I share my tips and tricks to make space for inspiration to make an appearance.  Oh, and there is also a nice discussion about muses.

Here's a quick recap of my personal list of ways to help coax a burst of inspiration:

· Music

· Podcasts, e-books, books, audio-books

· Authentic conversation

· Being

     o Meditation

     o Nature

     o Working out

· Creating

     o Art

          - Music

          - Photography

          - Painting

          - Poetry

     o Cooking

     o Mixology

So, what’s the point? Well the point is that sometimes you have to make your own inspiration. And you can't inspire others if you're not inspired! I promise that using any of my tips and tricks will help you to Thrive in the Transition.

Episode 13 - Choice, Responsibility and Victims

1h 5m · Published 12 May 23:04

This episode is about choices. Choices are everything during a transition. Choices are the difference between getting the job or not. They are the difference between meeting the love of your life or sitting at home by yourself. Choices are even the determining factor between happiness and dissatisfaction.

I’m not talking about being right or wrong; or even making a good choice or a bad choice. I want to talk about choices in terms of being responsible for your choices and their outcomes versus utilizing choices to become a victim and blaming the world for the outcomes of those same choices.

We explored today's topic by using 30 quotes or pieces of “conventional wisdom”.  And I pose the following questions to our listeners:

1. What is the most pressing choice facing you right now?

2. What areas of your life can you be more responsible for?

3. What does being a victim provide to you?

By reflecting on the answers to those questions, I want to empower you to make better choices so that you can ultimately reach your goals – whatever they are - and thrive in the transition. Be sure to share your answers with us.
