I remember in 2016 when I first started my journey, this is mainly what I was reading. At that time my only measure of a happy and successful life was based on how good I felt after a productivity session of me grinding myself away at my keyboard & screen for hours.

And then I looked back at my past and realized…

I’ve actually been “productive” for most of my life. But maybe similar to you, I just pieced it and figured it out together as I went along every day.

Taking strands of anxiety, too much coffee, too much stress combining them together into a moshpit of a familiar feeling I love and hate called “oh I was productive today.”

Some ask this question, because they see other people’s success like mine for example today and can’t fathom how I used to be just like them when I only had social anxiety.

Others, because they want success of their own and want to learn how I started so maybe one day they will also start their transformation journey.

Your journey will differ depending on the kind of person you are and your past and other factors that make us human. Nobody’s journey will reflect yours identically.

You can borrow concepts and try your best to copy and attempt to do things but that will only bring you so far. That’s why this is so hard.

Nobody in life can give you a “Hey, here’s a guide to Finding {Your Name} Best Life Adventure Story in 24 Hours” If that existed (which a lot of terrible marketers think so) that would be a massive rip off and scam.

I want to take you down my journey and then break it down into fundamentals and critical lessons I had to learn to make what my life is today happen, and hopefully, you can take some of these universal elements and apply them to your life and make stuff happen too.

Maybe You're Not Actually a Shy Introvert - Episode 17

For most of my life, I was told by the world I was a shy and quiet introvert.

It turns out I had social anxiety, which is one of the most common mental health issues in America that leads to substance abuse, social isolation, and suicide.

Society says the kid or person sitting alone at the library or cafeteria is doing so, because he or she is an introvert, and they like their solitude.

That could be the case, and there’s nothing wrong with being an introvert…

But that person could also be sitting alone even though they want be social but, their brain doesn’t let them talk to others, aka social anxiety. The worst part about this is there’s enough stigma on mental health in the first place.

When it comes to seeing a doctor, therapist, or maybe even calling the suicide hotline, those with social anxiety are plagued the most and usually can’t ask for help.

Let’s make one thing clear off the bat.

I am not denying introversion or perhaps the fact that you may or may not be an introvert. Being an introvert can be a superpower if harnessed correctly.

I spent my entire life rarely making eye contact with anyone.

Fast forward now and I’ve spent the last 6 years making eye contact, being myself, and having great conversations with some of the world’s most successful people and strangers.

It’s surreal now to think about my past when I hardly have any memories of looking into people’s eyes, and now it’s a default behavior I’ve installed in my mind.

Many of you have sent emails and submitted questions around this topic of eye contact and social anxiety.

Should we make eye contact? Should we look at someone’s forehead instead?

It was the fall of 2016.

I woke up on a Monday morning feeling refreshed and filled with energy for the first time in my life.

This is not an exaggeration 👆

I distinctly remember growing up and trying to sleep every night. Closing my eyes, and then staying up in the darkness of my mind every night. The next thing I knew, I would hear my parent's alarm go off and it was morning time!

When I look back at those times. I feel sadness for the younger version of myself.

Because it all makes sense. Sleep is the bedrock layer of health. Without sleep, your biochemistry doesn’t function properly, even your memory, mood, focus, are all heavily impacted.

Before 2016 I had never thought of meditating. I didn’t know much about it and sort of guessed it was for hippies or some ultra-religious tradition for monks, and not for a normal guy like me.

It wasn’t until I experienced a dark period in 2015 with my mental health that forced me to deal with this and find new tools for my problems. Alongside reading books, eating healthy, and sleeping well, I was led to meditation.

Meditation isn’t actually about calming yourself down. From an outsider’s perspective meditation seems like a peaceful practice where you float up in the clouds and melt all your stress. While there may be meditations that teach this, it’s important to not build the expectation of having this experience every time. Meditation is actually about rewiring your brain, emotional connections, and free up space in your mind to effectively live in the present moment.

How to Handle People Who Tell You What to Do - Episode 11

People who tell you how to act and who to be as if you’re an actor reading a movie script. They’re not the directors of your Life story.... Unless you let them.

You will meet some people in life who derive their power from controlling others.

Whether it was that 4th-grade teacher who always seemed to start a mental world war 3 over whether Jeffrey spilled his milk on the ground on Thursday. Or, maybe a parent, or a past friend of yours, or an old toxic boss or colleague who got on your nerves.

It’s one thing to advise or recommend someone to do something, in a professional setting like your boss or a friendly manner like Hey Mark, here’s a typo in your article, or here’s another analogy or image that would go well here...

There are other times where you:

- never asked for their opinion.
- don’t care about that person’s opinion.
- their opinion isn’t about informing or educating, it’s about tearing you down politically in a way they have more power over you.

Everyone faces this throughout their lifetime and time again. It seems like the bullies always come back, don’t they? Here are 3 main principles I’ve learned that have helped me.

How to Be Confident Without Faking It - Episode 10

I meet many people on my journey today who say something like:

“I could always manage my anxiety and how I showed up in the world for most of my life…and then ________ happened.”

Life hits them and beats them down. They feel defeated. Feeling like they have to start from point A, from the beginning of the drawing board, without a clue, again.

It turns out that “figuring it out” every day, is sort of like stitching yourself together, while the plane is falling down through the clouds and while more stuff is breaking.

A lot of the times you start to realize you actually were never truly confident.

You were just making it up and trying to figure out how to get by in each moment.

You found a crutch, a source of escape, validation from others, something you could lean in to give you those feelings that you are confident in, especially in front of other people and social scenarios.

I’ve read so many articles about how to be confident, and like most things on the internet, many of them are filled with BS.

Giving people short-term, shallow, shortcuts, that don’t produce long-term results.

Let’s change that and dive into 5 ways to be confident without faking it.
