3: Listen with Deborah Pezzuto

34m · Published 27 Oct 15:00

After many years in Milan Deborah moved to New York with her partner Alessandro and decided to start a family.

She was already in her early forties, but still had the dream to have a large household. They successfully open adopted a beautiful baby girl called Keisha and continued in their quest to conceive more children, but that wasn’t easy. Following an IVF process, two beautiful twin boys arrived, Zack and Dylan right before they relocated to Mexico City.

They were at the top of their game personally and professionally, and very, very busy bottle feeding the children and changing a lot of nappies, they discovered that Zack and Dylan had been born profoundly deaf.

That news came as a complete shock, during a move to a new country and a change of job, and it really caught them in a very delicate moment of their life.

Knocked off  balance, they  had to significantly adapt their lives and find within them all the strength of the world to give their kids the chance to reach their full potential, despite their hearing disability.

Some key points from our interview:

  • How she discovered that however big her problems were that she could overcome them with a good mindset
  • How she was determined for her boys to be part of the hearing world whatever it took
  • How she recognises that it's important to surround herself with positive people
  • How she was really driven to give her boys the best life

"it's not about thinking out of the box, it's realising that there isn't a box" Deborah Pezzuto

Deborah now works as a transformational coach and recently self-published her memoir "Listen" which is available on Amazon, and you can learn more about how she could help you, here: https://deborahpezzuto.com

2: Girl Power with Mary Storrie

37m · Published 19 Oct 16:00

I met Mary through social media and when I heard her and her family’s story and all the good they are now doing because of it, I knew I had to share it.

On 28th December 2003, Mary Storrie, her husband Graham and their three children to a Christmas gathering, hosted by close friends. That evening changed their lives irrevocably, when Rosie May their only daughter was brutally murdered by a 17-year-old boy she knew. Rosie May was 10 years old.

On the first anniversary of Rosie May’s death, Mary stood with her family on the shore of the Indian ocean when the 2004 Asian tsunami struck. The day before, they had planted a tiny palm tree in memory of Rosie May. In the aftermath of the tsunami, they discovered the sapling, standing strong amidst the debris. This poignant moment was the inspiration for the Rosie May Foundation. Born in Sri Lanka, it aimed to support and nurture children in crisis, especially girls, giving them a more hopeful future. One that Rosie May was tragically denied forever.

The Rosie May Foundation is a registered UK charity and Mary has worked tirelessly to create a living legacy for her beautiful daughter. Growing organically from humble beginnings at the kitchen table, to an international charity

Some key points from our interview:

·      How her family learnt to heal after every parent’s worst nightmare came true when Rosie May was murdered

·      How she had to learn to push herself out of her comfort zone every day to heal

·      How she recognised it was so important to get support and talk about what had happened to their family

·      How the Rosie May Foundation has been set up to help other girls to receive a future that Rosie May was denied

·      How the work she does is a living legacy to her daughter

1: Standing Against Hate with Mike Haines

33m · Published 06 Oct 09:00

Welcome to the first episode of my new podcast show and I couldn’t be happier with my guest today, as he is a perfect example of what my show is all about!  He has bounced forward after facing the most horrendous adversity and is making such a difference to others across the world.

In this inaugural episode I speak to Mike Haines whose brother David was murdered by Isis in 2014, and rather than letting hatred take hold of his heart, he now does incredible work with his campaign promoting unity, tolerance and understanding.  I know his story will inspire you.

David was a humanitarian worker, and it was whilst he was working with an NGO in Syria that he was captured and held for 18 months before being horrifically murdered and his death put on the internet.

Mike’s incredible testimony cannot fail to show how he retained his humanity and compassion and is dedicated to sharing that message with the world to create unity

He says that if each and every one of us can open minds, hearts and arms to other communities we do not understand, then we can only grow closer and our resistance to intolerance and hate grows stronger

Some key points from our interview:

·      How he decided very early on after his brother’s murder that he wouldn’t let allow hate to fill his heart

·      How the values that he learnt as a child guided him in the work he now does for humanity

·      How he went on TV very quickly after David’s murder asking for no reprisals in his name

·      How through his work he’s been on a journey of enlightenment when he’s realised he’s not the only voice for understanding, unity and hope

·      How he believes that there are more good in this world than there is bad
