Episode 63 - Qi Gong for a Healthy Heart

41m · Published 17 Jul 18:00

In summer there's an emphasis on heart health in Traditional Chinese Medicine. What does it mean and what practices (physical and mental, or as we say in Chinese Wai Dan or Nei Dan), will support a healthy heart?

The heart is the fire element in Chinese Medicine. We want this fire to warm us up and nourish our internal organs, but too much fire will create inflammation and multiple medical problems.

Issues with the heart can be physical, like an issue of high blood pressure, low energy or multiple other heart issues. Or it could be how we process life emotionally. Different people process life events differently than others.

Emotions like anxiety, anger and over-excitement will generate too much fire leading to  imbalanced fire condition. Indifference and depression is on the other side of the spectrum.  Can we change our emotions using certain Qi Gong techniques?

Can we heal any physical heart issue we suffer from for a long time?

In this FREE Qi Talk we will investigate this subject more from a Qi Gong and lifestyle perspective. If you're curious to learn more, listen in!

Episode 62 - About your heart health

44m · Published 10 Jul 18:00

Did you know that heart issues and heart attack is the number 'two' killer in the US? Understanding the energetic role of the heart from a Chinese Medicine perspective will help us to adopt a lifestyle that will heal and protect the most important organ in Chinese Medicine.

The heart is the fire element in Chinese Medicine. It is considered the ruler, like a benevolent and enlightened monarch it is all knowing and ever present, sharing wisdom for the good of the whole. Your Fire aspect represents fulfillment, the full extent of our expansion, personal development and maturation. The Heart also houses your spirit through the distribution of blood in the body.

The flow of blood nurtures the body and serves as a vehicle for communication. It permeates the body with consciousness sensation and feeling. When the fire in your house is balanced it will warm your house (like fire in the the fireplace). Balanced fire in the heart means your spirit is strong this reflects in a person emotional expression, presence of mind, the brightness of the eyes and the lustrous complexion. It will also reflect in high ability to focus, not to be distracted.

When fire is out of balance it will burn your house and turn things into ashes. It will dry your lungs, creates inflammation and wreak havoc. At the same time, not enough heart fire can lead you into depression. Some of the side effects of an imbalanced heart will be incessant talking, disturbing dreams, insomnia, easily overheating, hot flashes, craving stimulation, restlessness and more.

In this Qi Talk, we investigate this subject more deeply and offer methods and lifestyle practices to heal the heart!

Episode 61 - Taoist Secrets to Aging, Part 2

46m · Published 09 Jun 03:00

What is the secret to staying young and vital with the gift of maturity -- wisdom and life-experience? In my free Qi Talk tomorrow we continue our discussion on the Taoist view on aging (or not aging!) As you mature in body and mind, you become wiser, more confident, increasingly tolerant and resilient. Yet, instead of celebrating these attainments, Western thinking often represents age as something be to feared and fight. The word 'anti-aging' in our language is taken from the allopathic western medicine approach that in its philosophic roots is engaging in a war with 'the other' (like anti-biotic, anti-acid, etc). This negative over-arching perspective may leave you feeling less visible or valid as time passes. In response, increasing number of people are turning into eastern philosophies and medicine to enjoy a more holistic approach to aging. The polarity between opposites (young and old, Yin and Yang) in Chinese medicine and Taoist thinking in not to be fought against and resist one over the other, but to be understand the depth behind the two in order to create harmony and balance, and eventually live a happy, healthy and long life. A path to longevity is perhaps Taoism's greatest gift. A normal human lifespan is considered to be 100, with 150 years representing a long life. Skilled Taoists have been reporting to live beyond 200 years. Over millennia, Taoist instructions on how to age well and live long life have been recorded. including guidelines in the areas of: Diet Purification Exercise and breathing Herbs Sexual energy Aging is generally attributed to the exhaustion of fundamental substances within the body, such as Qi, Shen and Jing (kidney essence), as well as the degeneration of organs and accumulation of metabolic waste sources such as poor diet and lifestyle practices. A core element is the depletion of kidney essence, which manifests itself as fatigue, loss of bone density, shrinkage of sexual organs and thining of the hair, to name few.
