Do you find yourself looking at other people and thinking “they have nice flat stomach” and wishing you had that….you might think ”they must have good genetics” or “they must be lucky” OR “they must not work at a job and workout all day long”…Why do you compare yourself to others and how this can hurt and HELP you in your weight loss journey… all on today’s episode of Weight Loss for Women Over 40!

When you work with me, you will not get a meal plan or calories to count….or some shake regime or pills you have to take.

In fact, my motto is “no foods are off limits!”

There is no diet in my programs. There is no restriction or deprivation.

No insane workouts to do…most of the workouts I give my clients average under 30 minutes. I’ve had clients lose weight only doing 5 minute workouts a few times a week.

I was just at a networking event and I was talking to a women I hadn't seen in awhile and I asked her how she was doing….I GENUINELY care and want to know!! And I could see she was verbally saying “fine” but her face and mannerism said otherwise. I looked at her and said “is it not good?” …Now we are not besties. But my heart went out to whatever it is she is actually dealing with. We all have things that we are dealing with. The next time you ask someone “how are you doing?” check and see if you really mean it. I have been diving into the word commitment and what it really means to me and how I can apply this concept to my clients.

In psychology terms commitment is when “we make promises about the results we want but tend to ignore the process necessary to achieve these goals.”

I am sure you have heard about “enjoy the process” …and that saying used to annoy me.

Like “yeah right how do I enjoy the process of losing weight when I have to basically starve myself and do grueling workouts…just get me to the freakin lean body already!!”

If you grew up in the 70’s and 80’s this is what we were taught to starve yourself and beat yourself down with exercise!

This has backfired on us all!

Have you noticed whenever you start trying to lose weight all the sudden the people you spend the most time with …you feel like they are putting pressure on you…it could be a favorite aunt…a best friend…your partner…

They may ask you to taste this new cookie recipe they just made or want to go grab a cup of coffee at your favorite bakery.

Trying to lose weight especially during the holiday seasons or any celebrations …and by the way if you missed my last episode on How to Celebrate and Stop Overeating go listen to that when you are finished with this episode.

Trying to lose weight gets more complex when you are trying to lose weight during the holidays… you feel more pressure to join in on all the holiday festivities which includes lots and lots of food.

Our society equates celebrating with food…and lots of it.

Birthday → have to have cake

Girls’ night out →has to include wine.

Date night → has to include dinner and dessert

Think about all the times where food is the main player in the things you do.

Yes you need food to stay alive and yes I DO think food needs to taste good…

But can you celebrate without eating or drinking something let alone overindulging?...

Part of losing weight is about food and if you are deep in Dieter’s Mentality.. food will be a HUGE part of your journey. When you are in Dieter’s Mentality, you think you need to eliminate food or food groups. So if you are restricting foods, the foods you DO eat …you want them to taste good. The irony of this is if you are in Dieter’s Mentality you are probably eating food that does NOT taste good. Consistency Hack For Weight Loss - Weight Loss for Women Over 40

One of the biggest complaints I hear from women who come to me wanting to work with me is that they need to be more consistent.

You’ve heard over and over “Consistency is King (or Queen)”

And while I will not negate that consistency IS important….for instance you will get better results from lifting weights on a consistent basis as opposed to lifting weight one time.

The problem comes in ..is when you are FORCING yourself to do all the things.

Recently, I had a client that messaged me that she felt obligated to do her workout but she didn’t feel good. She was tired and felt run down. Now, if you are in Dieter’s Mentality you will be thinking that you need to suck it up and do the workout.

I told her to go rest and not do her workout.

Does that mean she wasn’t consistent?...And in the big picture does that matter?
