Molly and Irene talk about how doing this podcast has been helpful for their own mental health and keeping them accountable to practice the things they are discussing. Megan Richert, LCSW & PMH-C joins Molly and Irene to share her experience with Postpartum Depression and how she came to open her own Private Practice specializing in the Mental Health of Pregnant and Postpartum clients. The three start off by sharing their Lows and Highs for the week. Irene describes how high (unspoken) expectations led to feeling disappointed after a date night. She's also excited about a new living arrangement! Molly shares how an acute stressor overshadows other feelings from the past week. Megan explores the mind-body connection of feeling physical tension along with irritability, combined with hope for the future in many areas of her life.  Megan shares her education and career path in pursuit of her Masters Degree in Social Work. After giving birth and experiencing some frightening thoughts, Megan sought treatment and was diagnosed with Postpartum Depression. Molly and Irene start today's episode off with a new segment asking what you have done for your mental health this week? Molly talks about her low and highs in navigating work, school and life as she is grieving. Irene talks about completing her 4x4x48 running challenge and coming down from that high intensity weekend, which led to a low that caused her to call her therapist for an emergency appointment. During therapy Irene digs into her family of origin and how she is understanding her own codependency.  Molly and Irene define codependency along with the behaviors and risk factors. Irene confesses her own codependent behaviors and talks about her experience with Al-Anon, a support group for codependent individuals. Molly opens up about how she relates to codependency and is recognizing her codependent behaviors in a current conflict.  Irene explains the Karpman Triangle and how this cycle is common in codependents. In this episode Irene shares how she is starting to enjoy running. Molly is the recipient of Irene's good feelings which makes things awkward for today's guest, Monica. Monica shares her lows of having to apply for her Massage Therapy license and needing some extra space in her application to account for her criminal record. Monica reflects on her history of addiction and how that eventually led to jail, prison terms, and a string of recovery homes. She opens up about coming out to her family, remembering some childhood abuse, and how a break up caused a spiral into 20 years of drinking and meth use. Monica then talks about her recovery process and how it took years of relapse after relapse to finally come to the end of her ropes. She describes what it was like coming to realize sobriety was her only option. Jaime talks about what sex trafficking is and how she started on this path of helping those involved. She also talks about how helping others starts with our own mental health. Jaime is also reinventing policies within her own team to create a culture that supports self care and having a safety plan for staff members.
