We have a saying, let joy be your magnet. So if you can prime joy in your day, every day, it just helps you to really live your life more fully, more vibrantly. And I think going through the years, that's a real protective factor for you in terms of helping you to be more resilient…

And often what I find in order to get towards a what we call a brain healthy exercise prescription, whether that's an individual who wants to prevent dementia, an individual with mild cognitive impairment or a person with Parkinson's disease, the prescription is that 150 to 300 minutes moderate to vigorous physical activity minimum per week, but also adding some variety. So you want some aerobic, you want some resistance training and you also want neuromotor.

Walkable Cities Where Walking is the Useful, Safe, Comfortable and Interesting Choice
31m · PublishedAn interview with Jeff Speck, Author of Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America One Step at a Time.
How do you create an environment in which people are making the choice to walk or bike, in fact, rather than to drive? And the answer is that the walk has to be as good as the drive. And for the walk to be as good as the drive. It needs to do four things simultaneously. It needs to be useful, safe, comfortable, and interesting. So we look at the factors that contribute to each of those four things. And we try to improve them.

Advocating for the Essential Role of Movement in Physical and Mental Health
31m · PublishedAn interview with Francesca Schuler, President of the California Fitness Alliance.
And then the long term vision would be hopefully we could get some funding to run an ongoing public service campaign that's all about kind of movement for mental and physical fitness. And that could take a form of a variety of TV ads, billboards, etc. Just inviting people, educating people, building awareness around the importance. We say that pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars and they sell hope in a pill on their TV commercials. I want to sell hope in a workout.
