Episode 31 - For those who are struggling...

19m · Published 14 Mar 15:00

In this week's podcast I decided to take a break from 'Music Monday.'

Although I love reacting to music, this week called for something a little different.

Lately I've been going through some changes in my life and it's left me to feel unsettled.

I've always struggled with anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, and ADHD.

And sometimes it can feel debilitating, scary, confusing, and overall just exhausting.

With these changes taking place, naturally I have a hard time coping with the transitions of life that we must go through.

It's like my brain doesn't know how to handle it and decides it's time to have a freak out session.

With all that being said, I didn't feel like 'Music Monday' was the right fit for this week's video.

I felt it was necessary and healthy for myself to just be real with you guys and share some of my struggles.

In the end I hope this video could serve as way to help others.

Make sure you guys tune in next week for my 100th video on YouTube!

Episode 30 - How You Should Be Approaching the New Year in 2022

16m · Published 03 Jan 21:00

In this week's episode I dive into the one single tactic that I've used over the last two years that's helped me set some really solid intentions while moving into each new year.

With the new year finally upon us, I know a lot of people out there talk about New Year's resolutions and how all of a sudden they are going to motivate themselves to destroy all of the negative habits that are holding them back in life.

I want to offer up a different approach to this procrastination mindset that never yields any true, tangible, reliable results.

I'm talking about the use of intentions; a way to dive deep into one's self, have an honest conversation about what needs to change in your life, and use the start of the New Year to gain some positive momentum.

FULL DISCLAIMER - THIS MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU BUT IT CERTAINLY HAS HELPED ME.

SO, why not try it?

You've been saying for years on end that this year was going to be different or this was the year you were going to get serious about your goals.

What have you got to lose?

At least give it a shot and see what happens.

Nothing can change without some brutal honesty, a change in perception, and a release of all the things that have made you stay weak for as long as you can remember.

Let's change together.

Episode 29 - 75 Hard Challenge Update - Day 52

16m · Published 23 Dec 15:00

In this episode, I decided to rock it solo!

I wanted to talk about where I'm at in my 75 hard challenge journey.

This recording was from yesterday, which was day 52 out of 75.

In this podcast, I talk about what I've noticed so far during the challenge, what's changed in me since partaking in this program, and how I anticipate what the future is going to hold.

I also mentioned some side topics like delaying gratification in the pursuit of your goals, semen retention, and how this program is going to help you get more diligent with your momentum in life.

Couldn't find a guest for the podcast this week, so I figured I would kick it by myself.

Enjoy the podcast and make sure you're subscribing to the channel over here on and on YouTube. As well, find unique ways to share these episodes by telling friends, posting on your social media pages, and/or telling cousin Andy at your family Christmas party that you think he'd like the content I'm putting out over here.

As always, thank you guys for the continued support!

Episode 28 - Harry Dudley

1h 4m · Published 16 Dec 15:00

On this week's podcast of Nurture the Mind, we welcome Harry Dudley, a fifth-year senior at Simpson College here in Indianola, Iowa.

Harry has been competing in cross country ever since he was in high school and has found a love for the sport. In this discussion, we really focused on how his mindset has changed to approaching life since he started running consistently.

We also talked about the importance of starting small when approaching your goals or developing a healthier set of habits. If you've never run in your life but want to get started, it might be more important to focus on walking first before you gradually work up to an accelerated pace.

Finally, Harry highlighted his experience growing up in England before he moved over to the United States when he was 10 years old.

I had such a great time meeting and chatting with Harry! He will be entering his final track season in the upcoming 2022 spring semester, so check out some of his meets! This man is setting PRs every time he goes out there!

If you happen to be new to the channel, it would be greatly appreciated if you guys would like the video, subscribe to the channel, share the video with your friends, or just have a conversation with someone about what you heard. Growing, sharing, nurturing this channel is what I'm all about, but I can't do it all on my own. I need your guy's help!

This is a special episode of Nurture the Mind and one I'm very proud to share with you guys!

Kirk Gibson is the owner of Max Belief, which is a business that helps people overcome obstacles in their lives, identify their goals, and push past their perceived limiting beliefs.

Kirk coaches his clients towards success with his fascination with how the mind works and his relentless desire to help people improve.

We met in the Indianola YMCA gym and immediately connected with our shared excitement of what positive, healthy habit-forming can do for people and ultimately transform their lives.

In this podcast, we cover a multitude of topics, some of which include the internal dialogue we all engage with on a daily basis, being on the cause vs effect side of things in the victim culture we all witness, and how Kirk uses structure, rigor, and discipline to execute on his goals.

Such a great experience for and I'm sure Kirk would echo that same message.

I think you guys will get a lot out of this episode, so make sure you stick around for the entirety of the episode.

Episode 26 - Liv Allen

52m · Published 22 Oct 15:00

Liv Allen is a returning guest and this is her second time appearing on the show.

In this discussion, we cover mental health and how to navigate it in a world that seems to be constantly imploding with topics that get covered in the media.

We spoke about one of our favorite topics, music. We debated the differences between Donda by Kanye West and CLB by Drake.

Liv shared her experience of the first concert she attended, which was the Donda listening party in Chicago.

And we also briefly talked about the benefits of meditation and the different ways in which you can practice meditation, for instance by taking walks outside while listening to music.

Always a pleasure when we get together! Good luck with the rest of your senior year and ball out this softball season! #ROLLSTORM

Episode 25 - Natalie Wilkinson

1h 35m · Published 30 Sep 18:00

So many gems in this podcast!

I tell you what; it is amazing to catch up with friends that you love and care about and to see how much growth has taken place in both of your lives.

This is Natalie Wilkinson's third time on Nurture the Mind Podcast and we talked about all the things that have been going on in our lives as of late.

Natalie moved out to Washington D.C. back in May and I recently went through another breakup, which causes change, anxiety, growth, and restructuring of the mind.

The main theme that kept reoccurring throughout our talk is this idea of finding balance amidst all the things we encounter in our lives, good and bad.

Very excited to get back into the podcast game and I think you guys are really going to enjoy this episode.

Stick around for the entire episode to find the gems!

Also, please like the video, subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment or suggestion for the content you'd like to see more of! It really helps me track the direction I'll take with the channel moving forward.

Episode 24 - Mitch Neessen

1h 15m · Published 19 May 18:00

Mitch is the first guest to come on the show three times, making him the obvious choice as my favorite person to do podcasts with. We talked about our issues with anxiety, overthinking, and the things we wish we could change about ourselves. It's cool to see how far Mitch has grown since taking some time to live out in Utah while working at a ski resort. He mentioned how the biggest thing that changed for him is just becoming more self-aware. We also talked about our childhood, reminiscing on the days when we would enjoy watching WWE. I'm glad I got to chat with him before he moved up to Wisconsin. Best of luck, brother. I've enjoyed all of our conversations.

Episode 23 - Olivia Allen

1h 34m · Published 25 Feb 15:00

Liv Allen is a Junior at Simpson College. In this episode, we talk about our musical influences, which happen to be mainly rap and hip-hop. It ended up being the longest podcast I've ever recorded, but it was super fun! Liv is talented, smart, and well educated in the music industry. Can't wait until we get to do another one of these, enjoy!

Episode 22 - Jamie Glanz

50m · Published 31 Jan 06:00

Jamie Glanz is a Senior at Simpson College. She is a part of the Track and Field team. Originally I was only going to interview her for a story I was writing for the Simpsonian, but we ended up exploring some really interesting topics. She studied abroad last semester in Scotland. She told me how much she took away from that experience as she learned a lot about how much she was actually capable of accomplishing hard moments of struggle. Growing up sheltered, dealing with anxiety and depression, this was a challenge where she finally got out of her own way and dealt with the uncomfortable nature of never having traveled anywhere outside of the Iowa State Fair. I think it's a great lesson for everyone - to get out of the comfort zone. I felt very inspired as we were talking and decided to travel to Utah once I graduate as I have been thinking for a while that I might end up out there one day.
