41m · Published 03 Aug 14:00

This week, we're joined by Gloria Battini,  a toxic relationship recovery coach, who spent 15 years in a toxic relationship herself.

During those 15 years, she has dealt with narcissistic abuse, she did not know who she was and experienced a loss of identity.

Join Gloria and I as we discuss what narcissistic abuse is and the different phases of the cycle, including gaslighting.  We explore how victims of any type of abusive relationship also experience something known as trauma bonding. We'll dive deeper into what trauma bonding is and any signs you should be looking out for to understand if you or someone you know are in an abusive relationship.

And if you've ever asked the questions, do narcissists know what they're doing? We've got some answers.

Lastly, Gloria talks about how anxiety, OCD, and seeing help for her disorders finally broke her free from her abusive relationship. We talked about what happened when she finally left the relationship and how anyone dealing with an abusive relationship can finally break free and reconnect with themselves.

Gloria is on a mission of healing, empowering, and giving a voice to all survivors of emotional abuse, toxic relationships, and narcissistic abuse. To learn more, visit her website or check her out on Instagram.

OUT; From Contraception to Sexual Awakening with Sophie Herinckx

56m · Published 29 Jun 13:00

This week, Tamara chats with an old friend from back in her Australia days, Sophie. This chat was the result of Sophie's article that she wrote for Mamamia AU, 'For 16 years, I thought I was straight. Then I came off contraception.'

What was discussed:

  • Sophie talks about the effects birth control had on her and her sexuality over 16 years
  • Why she went on contraception in the first place and how she realized and embraced the fact that she was a lesbian after getting off the pill
  • They talk about the effects of birth control on women as a whole and how there's not necessarily a male equivalent or it's not stressed as much
  • Women have to carry the burden and the responsibility of contraception and the effects of what happens as a result, if they refuse to use it or aren't careful in sexual situations
  • Sophie talks about having to go on the pill at the age of 13 to help with her mood and periods
  • As a whole, most women are not educated about the side effects of being on birth control, especially as young girls
  • Growing up in Belgium, Sophie did not know many people who were gay or lesbian
  • At 28 and in a 5-year relationship, she made a conscious decision to get off of contraception
  • After getting her IUD removed, she instantly felt the change of feeling more awake, more herself, and having her sex drive back. She felt renewed and re-energized
  • She entered a period where she was losing the attraction from her boyfriend, which caused them to enter into an open relationship in order to spice things up, resulting in her falling in love with a woman in the process
  • PRIDE in Australia
