Building The Case For a Raise with Jeffery Dingle

32m · Published 03 Jul 13:00

Should we each be loyal enough to our company to have a straight up conversation about compensation with our boss or manager?

Jeffery Dingle teaches us, “You can't just let that conversation happen to you.” You have to create a case for your career, for your raise, in your day to day activity. You have to understand how you fit in an organization and how your performance impacts other people's performance. And that allows your boss to see you as a major cog in the engine that's driving the whole business.

You cannot be that guy or gal that’s just showing up, doing the same thing every day, and then expect to make more just because you've hung around for a year. If you're producing the same value for the company today that you produced 52 weeks ago, and nothing's improving, nothing's expanding, and you're not bringing more value…

Jeffery Dingle is the VP of Global Strategic Sales for Jacobs Engineering Group headquartered in Atlanta, GA.  In his nearly 13 years in engineering, he's worked on projects like the 1996 Olympic venues and infrastructure, the Hartsfield Jackson, Atlanta international airport, and dozens of major transportation and water capital improvement programs.

Check it out. And, if you like it, don't forget to subscribe.

Shoot Your Shot: How to Ask For A Raise with JD Phillips

42m · Published 17 Jun 07:00

JD teaches us there are four strategic steps to take when asking for a raise:

  1. Consider why you want it
  2. Get emotionally charged about the benefit of having it
  3. “Take inventory” of your value
  4.  And then, when the time is right, shoot your shot

JD Phillips is a Certified Financial Educator and has spent the last 25 years in the financial services industry helping clients successfully earn retirement income. In addition to that, he's also a master sales trainer and team builder who once built a sales distribution team of over 50,000 representatives. He's a professional speaker and an author, most recently contributing to a national bestselling book called “How Money Works”.

He says, “When faced with a decision, asking yourself “For what?” brings your subconscious out of oblivion. You laser focus on exactly what your next step should be. Once you get your mind right, you can prepare for the next step. When you start thinking about a raise, start with that two-word question “for what?”

“For what?” gets things to an emotional level, gives you direction, and puts you in motion. And if you're asking for more money, you better have a plan in place. You have to justify it to yourself before you can justify it to anyone else... “

This is an incredible episode that you will not want to miss.

The Raise Cycle with Janet Guertin

37m · Published 10 Jun 20:00

Not everyone has worked for a company that sells Nuclear Submarines and Gulfstream jets, but our Special Guest Janet Guertin is that special someone. After a successful career with General Dynamics (global aerospace and defense company that manufactures everything from combat vehicles to nuclear-powered submarines), she founded The Dividend Factor where she and her team pursue and capture Defense Industry contracts. She's also a certified leadership speaker and coach with a John Maxwell Team, one of the largest leadership training organizations in the world.

So you want a raise? Janet says it’s a simple cycle - “Take more responsibility, show off your skillset, develop your reputation, people decide they want to work with you, and that drives raises and promotions.”

She says, “We cannot lead others until we can lead ourselves. If you’re going to work with a team, and you want a lot in return, you’ll have to give them everything you’ve got.”

“I've told a guy, “Hey, you don't understand my market value. This is simple - I want to be paid commensurate with my market value.”

For my company, I represent the customer and to the customer, I represent the company and my job is to make the most efficient use of everybody's time. My mission is to match the right people with the right people when the timing is right.

Janet is a wealth of knowledge and you don't want to miss it!
