136 - You DON'T have to "dent the universe"

57m · Published 04 Aug 12:00

The famous Steve Jobs quote goes something like this: “We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Why else even be here.” And while that’s inspiring for some, it’s not the only perspective in life. Also, we can think of a million other reasons to exist as a human that don’t require trying to dent the universe.

In this episode, we want to deconstruct some of these big aspirational quotes that get shared constantly around social media. There’s a lot of ego at play in the “dream big” messaging and the constant striving for trying to impact millions of people.

If you’re anything like us, and if you listen to this podcast we think you are 😘😘, we’re here to tell you that having smaller goals and focusing on “enough” (in audience size, revenue, etc) can be incredibly impactful and rewarding. We also love that we can focus on making a change in a tiny group of people’s lives and that feels right to us!

135 - Trying to cultivate more satisfaction

47m · Published 28 Jul 14:46

When was the last time you caught yourself scrolling through IG, Pinterest, etc, and wishing you had the exact kitchen, outfit, aesthetically “perfect” office, completely passive income business, etc?

We live in a time when we don’t just see what our neighbors are up to, we’re now trying to keep up with billions of people. In this week’s episode, we wanted to talk about how these thoughts are affecting us but also how we’re trying to combat them with our own future life decisions.

If you’re feeling caught up in a never-ending spiral of wanting more or dreaming about some big life change, maybe it’s worth writing down your non-negotiable (realistic) items that WOULD make you feel satisfied. And then, if you achieve that big dream or make a huge life change, you won’t automatically be focused on what’s next or what you don’t have! That’s certainly what we’re trying to do.

134 - Are you playing the game of life on hard mode?

50m · Published 21 Jul 11:00

When you’re a person who lives with an “invisible illness” (anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, Binocular Vision Dysfunction, etc) it can be very difficult for the rest of the world to see how much you are struggling. It’s like you’re playing the game of life on HARD MODE, while everyone else is playing on normal mode.

A few years ago, while struggling with anxiety, we were very lucky to discover that Caroline has a slight misalignment of her eyes that causes a condition called Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD). Thankfully, we were able to find an optometrist who could prescribe a unique glasses prescription that helped give her much-needed comfort from daily dizziness, clumsiness (no joke), and many more symptoms you can find linked below caused by BVD.

We wanted to peel back the curtain, talk about how Caroline is feeling this week, and share this small metaphor epiphany we stumbled into together. For Jason, playing the game of life is very normal and comfortable. For Caroline, every day can be a bit of a struggle, and it’s like she’s always playing on HARD MODE. Maybe you and your partner are similar? So, how do we navigate those different game modes together? How can we better support the person playing on HARD mode? All of that and more this week!

133 - Surviving the summer business slump

51m · Published 14 Jul 12:00

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about surviving the summer business slump. We’ve learned to embrace this season as sales, attention, and growth all comes to a screeching halt. We want to normalize this a bit more so it’s less shocking to you when it happens, and also something you’re preparing for every year.

We’ll share how seasoned business owners can be ready for the summer slow-down and why resting and ENJOYING this time of year is just as helpful as doing a bunch of work.

We’ll also discuss how new biz owners can weather this slower time AND get creative with offers to still nab some sales (or plant seeds for the future)!

The most important takeaway this week: Don’t form an opinion of the entirety of your business based on the inevitable slow-down of the summer months.

132 - Do you HAVE to niche down to succeed?

59m · Published 07 Jul 12:00

For all our multi-passionate business owners out there, this episode is FOR YOU. We hope our discussion this week helps you in one of two ways:

1. Either you’ve been wanting to stay more generalized and multi-passionate, but it hasn't been working for you and this can give you permission to go more narrow OR...

2. You’re still really committed to being a generalist (like we are with WAIM!) and this can help shift your expectations in terms of how to make that happen.

We believe it IS still possible to be less niche with your biz, but the key has been and always will be: You need an audience, and specifically, you need an email list.

There are five key elements we're sharing this week to help you succeed if you don't want to niche way down and you want to serve a bigger, broader topic.

131 - Business Nemesis (aka dealing with comparison)

56m · Published 30 Jun 12:00

This episode was inspired by a message we received from someone who said a version of the following, “What do you do when someone does something very similar to you and reaches a level of success or virality while you’re sort of toiling away?”

It’s a GREAT question and something we’ve dealt with a few times over the years (and will continue to deal with, as it’s very natural and happens to everyone). We share a few of our own stories about comparison and what we’ve learned about working through it in various ways. We talk about running into comparison early on in your business journey and what to do when seeing someone else succeed can take such an emotional toll on your energy.

Let’s all talk about comparison and the idea of Business Nemesi (Nemsises?) a bit more, because we all run into it.

130 - Being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) in a relationship

1h 1m · Published 23 Jun 13:00

The term Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) is becoming a lot more well-known and we think that’s GREAT! This trait is something that can be seen as a detriment, but we also know it provides a lot of benefits in our relationship and work.

We go through some of our history in understanding Caroline is an HSP and how our relationship works out with a very NON-HSP in Jason. We discuss some of the feelings and factors that define an HSP as well as ways to support an HSP in everyday situations. Hopefully, this episode is one you can share with the HSP (or non-HSP) in your life to help learn from our experience!

129 - Reflecting on 40 years in life and 4 years in biz

50m · Published 16 Jun 12:00

Every “milestone” birthday has you reflecting on life and your previous years. Jason left his 30s behind and moved into the 40s, sharing five life/biz lessons with you.

For WAIM, our little entrepreneurial endeavor passed the 4-year mark and it’s hard for us to believe! But, during these past 4 years, we’ve learned some well-worn lessons we wanted to share with you that we hope you can apply to your business.

And, of course, there are lots of silly stories and walks down memory lane shared this week!

127 - When something has to give...

9m · Published 21 Apr 13:30

We don't want this update to come off as us complaining, more just sharing the REALNESS of what it takes to travel full-time while continuing to run two businesses (and trying to stay alive and healthy as human beings). At a certain point, something has to give to avoid burning out.

Full-time travel is such an amazing privilege and we are so grateful for this opportunity, but at the same time, it's also one of the hardest things we've ever done in our lives.

We'll be back before you know it and can't wait to share more biz advice and travel stories!

Look for new travel vlogs over on YouTube in the meantime: https://youtube.com/wanderingaimfully
