Bruce World - Your Life Guide

by Bruce Handler

Hi, I’m Bruce Handler and I’m a certified professional Executive/Leadership & Life Challenges Coach. I’ve been a Human Resources professional for over three decades and have experienced several interesting and unusual behaviors. As a Coach, I help people achieve their goals by changing the way they choose to think and act. I’m most interested in psychology, human behavior and habits and what it takes for people to lead happier, more satisfying and fulfilling lives. I’m here to share my realist views about how humans behave and why, and what you can do to tackle and deal with life's challenges. I will also provide you with important as well as fun facts and interject a little humor along the way; I will challenge people’s assumptions; and maybe influence the way people think and act.

EP #13: Take this job and love it, or I say not, given that many American workers are truly overworked, not managed well, and fearful of losing their jobs

34m · Published 24 May 20:00

Bruce shares a variety of data about Divorce (including:  how often it happens, the length of marriages, times in a marriage when it's most likely to end in Divorce, the best ages to get married and more).  People getting married and newlyweds generally believe they will never get divorced because they think they are and their situation is different.   There are many stories of people who have stayed married for a long time, but sadly many have done so for the wrong reasons.  The 10 things to help you determine if you are ready to get married and the 2 keys to staying married.  Bruce shares a technique for how to have civil conversations with your spouse about important issues without turning them into arguments.  Lastly, he shares how simply changing his thinking about marriage, totally changed the way he now acts, which has led to a more satisfying and fun marriage.

EP# 12: Hovercraft Parenting: Also known as parents who float over or shadow their kids as if still attached to them by something like an umbilical chord or duct tape

22m · Published 03 May 03:00

Too many parents these days are hovering over their kids; are overly involved in their child’s life, and other than working (if they do work) the parent has little else going on in their personal lives other than their kids.  Parents feel it’s their job to protect their children from anything in the world that could possibly harm them; and such parents will often direct their child’s behavior and push them to achieve. If a child has any challenge or problem or isn’t happy about something, the parent intervenes, intercedes, sticks their nose in it.  Their parents also act in a controlling manner by over scheduling their kids.

Too much hovering can be a bad thing that causes kids to have issues later in life and to be un prepared for challenges they will face as adults.  Kids need to be allowed to fall, fail, and feel some pain and to have time to just be kids.  This will lead to having a more well adjusted adult who can handle life stress and not have to rely on mom or dad to bail them out when life gets tough.

EP #11: Shots fired, but not heard: Living our lives with mass shootings and endless gun violence

24m · Published 24 Apr 22:00

Mass shootings have become a daily occurrence in the US and nothing meaningful is being done about it.  Additionally, the amount of murders in our country are at record levels.  Was this the intent of the Second Amendment?  I say no and explain why.

I'll share many statistics that tell an ugly story about America when it comes to massive gun ownership, the ease at which people can own guns including semi-automatic weapons, while 22 other developed countries combined have significantly less gun violence, in particular mass shootings and how other countries have changed their laws when mass shootings occur.

I've also had first hand experience with an individual who was looking to take the lives of others while having a mental breakdown, that people observed but took 30 days to report.

Most solutions I offer are pretty common but our current Senate won't agree to make any changes; however, there are things we can do to make a difference.

EP #10: Looks can kill – the growing obsession with body image – why are we so anti-body and how to address it?

31m · Published 14 Apr 22:00

So, this is going to be my very first podcast where there is little to laugh about, where I won’t be using puns, satire, sarcasm, punch lines, or silly sound effects.   This episode is about body image and how it's an issue that has become an epidemic and is getting worse by the year, and how it is particularly having an extremely negative impact on girls and women.  I will share some statistics that will blow your mind and that you will find hard to believe.  They should scare you.  But there is hope.  Even though there are very negative influences out there, in particular social media, parents have the power to turn the tide and make themselves and their daughters feel better about themselves and focus less on body image.
