Miss Bossy Boots Podcast

by Stacey Morgan & Jane Hillsdon

Stacey and Jane love a good chat. Especially when it comes to sharing stories about running their businesses. Stacey is a dance educator and principal of a dance school and Jane is managing director of a marketing agency. Both of them have ambitions as high as the heavens for their consecutive businesses. They are motivated, passionate and driven female business leaders who love to share their insight with anyone who will listen. They're also incredibly curious as to how other business leaders run their business. Most of all, they are determined to inspire more women into leadership positions. Having both been described as 'bossy' when they were little girls, the 'Miss Bossy Boots' Podcast was inspired by Sheryl Sandberg's famous quote 'I want every little girl who is told she is bossy, to be instead be told she has leadership skills'. 'Miss Bossy Boots' is the perfect avenue to embrace their leadership skills and to interview other inspiring business leaders from a huge range of backgrounds and share their uplifting stories. The Miss Bossy Boots podcast will be a fortnightly podcast after a saturated launch period of two weeks and will cover a range of topics to help encourage other women to lean into positions of leadership in their business, in their community and their industry.

From Dominatrix to Domination - How Kat McLead pivoted her career to create a business that supported her lifestyle

37m · Published 14 Nov 13:00

This episode we speak to Kat Mclead. Kat is the creator of the Stay at Home Mom Entrepreneur. This is a framework that she created for creating a highly profitable business that she loves while working just 2 hours a day.

Kat shares how she started her first multiple 6 figure business 20 years ago. She hasn’t slowed down since. Her first business profits meant that she had way more money than her husband when they first got married, and was able to pay the entire $450,000 down payment on their home. Not that he minded!

She fully planned on being a pampered Stay at Home Mom, but once her son began preschool, and she actually had ME time again for the first time in years, she became restless. So she came out of “retirement” and started coaching her friends just to give her a little extra buzz.

She now helps stay at home moms find fulfilment and independent income outside of motherhood all while staying Mom first.

How do you overcome fear?

29m · Published 31 Oct 13:00

Fear can be debilitating. It can stop us from realising our potential. It can stand in the way of us jumping on an opportunity. It can infiltrate our conscious and deplete our confidence.

Fear can be hard to identify too. In our experience, fear often manifests as a multitude of excuses. OR simply as prolific procrastination.

'I don't have time', 'I'm not set up to do this', 'I don't have enough experience', 'I'll do it later'.

Any of these sound familiar?

So what do you do to overcome this fear? In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Stacey and Jane share their experience with fear. They also talk about some of the actions that they have personally taken to overcome fear in their career.

Takeaways from How to do Marketing

32m · Published 17 Oct 13:00

If you have been listening to our recent podcasts that discuss Jane's first-ever book; How To Do Marketing - A Comprehensive Guide for Small Business, and wondering what the book is all about or even whether the book is for you, then listen up to this episode of Miss Bossy Boots!

You will also find this episode valuable if you are somewhat curious about how the dark art of marketing actually works.

Stacey shares some of her personal key take-aways from the book such as:

> Marketing will not do all the heavy lifting. While effective marketing can encourage people to consider you and hopefully come and buy from you, delivering your customers an awesome experience is integral to optimising your marketing investment.

> The power of word-of-mouth. The detrimental effects of disappointing your customers and how you can combat and prevent negative online comments.

What role a 'centre of influence' plays in your marketing eco-system. What is a centre of influence and how powerful building relationships with centre of influences can be to driving customers in your direction.

Jane also talks about the importance of setting goals to drive your marketing activity so that you can determine if you have achieved a successful outcome.

74 - Living your best life with a #flamingochallenge

29m · Published 03 Oct 14:00

A work-life balance may be nigh impossible to achieve, however, that does not mean that we can't at least try to schedule in self-care activities that will help us to survive the life of a working parent!

Eating well, exercising, relaxing, sleeping, learning - all of these things are necessary for us to live well, however these are the things that we often cast aside in order to get stuff done for work or family or whatever!

In an effort to encourage more 'me-time' Jane and Stacey have come up with the #flamingochallenge. This involves carving at least 1/2 hour out of your week - every week - where you do absolutely nothing!

Then, to prove that you have completed this task, you need to post a photo to Instagram and hashtag that proof with #flamingochallenge!
