Miss Bossy Boots Podcast

by Stacey Morgan & Jane Hillsdon

Stacey and Jane love a good chat. Especially when it comes to sharing stories about running their businesses. Stacey is a dance educator and principal of a dance school and Jane is managing director of a marketing agency. Both of them have ambitions as high as the heavens for their consecutive businesses. They are motivated, passionate and driven female business leaders who love to share their insight with anyone who will listen. They're also incredibly curious as to how other business leaders run their business. Most of all, they are determined to inspire more women into leadership positions. Having both been described as 'bossy' when they were little girls, the 'Miss Bossy Boots' Podcast was inspired by Sheryl Sandberg's famous quote 'I want every little girl who is told she is bossy, to be instead be told she has leadership skills'. 'Miss Bossy Boots' is the perfect avenue to embrace their leadership skills and to interview other inspiring business leaders from a huge range of backgrounds and share their uplifting stories. The Miss Bossy Boots podcast will be a fortnightly podcast after a saturated launch period of two weeks and will cover a range of topics to help encourage other women to lean into positions of leadership in their business, in their community and their industry.

63 - Social Media Marketing World Takeaways - Personal Branding & Innovation

22m · Published 02 May 14:00

Recently, we both attended Social Media Marketing World in San Diego. This conference was something that we had both wanted to attend for many years.

We set some goals for Miss Bossy Boots with the promise that when we achieved these we would road trip together to this conference! And that we did.

During this three-day conference, we had such an abundance of workshops to choose from. It was so hard to choose what to attend. We divided and conquered then got together to share notes and key takeaways from each session.

We also wanted to share these findings with you. So over two episodes, we'll share some of the info that we found inspiring, interesting and extremely valuable. These insights are definitely not restricted to social media marketing either. We share tips on goal setting, marketing, business and brand building, creativity and much more.

In this episode we cover:

  • How to build and monetise your personal brand -highlights from a session with Chris Ducker
  • How to channel your creativity - highlights from a session with Innovation Speaker (ex-Disney) Duncan Wardle

We hope you enjoy this episode and be sure to stay tuned for the follow-up episodes for more highlights from our trip to Social Media Marketing World 2019.

61 Yes, you can say No

24m · Published 05 Apr 02:56

Do you say yes, when you actually mean no?

Sometimes we say yes because we genuinely want to help and our optimism leads us to believe that we can fit it all in.

Sometimes we say yes, because we are afraid of hurting someone's feelings, or worried that they will judge us for saying no.

Sometimes we are just so used to saying yes, we just forget to say no.

But when saying yes to others starts to compromise your personal life, business or goals, you have to start saying no

In this episode, Stace and Jane talk through all the times that they have said yes and how they have learnt over time to start saying no.

60 - Surviving the School Holidays as Working Parents

25m · Published 21 Mar 13:00

Aaah, the bittersweet feeling of school holidays.

Yay, that for a few weeks you no longer have to worry about the rigid routine of school lunches, clean uniforms and after-school activities.

Boo, that for a few weeks working parents scramble to entertain kids without spending their life-savings on 'holiday activities and care', manage guilt that they are not spending 'quality time' with kids, hold down a full-time job and not slug down a bottle of wine daily to calm the holiday nerves.

In this episode, business owners and Mums; Stace and Jane talk through their school holiday experiences, some of the wins, some of the frustrations and importantly some of the techniques they are trying to manage the juggling act that is School Hols!

59 - Starting a Business Mastermind Group

29m · Published 07 Mar 13:00

"You are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with." Jim Rohn

If this quote is true, it makes sense to surround yourself in business with five (or more) of the smartest, most motivated and inspiring people you can find right?

Well, this is exactly what Stacey and Jane have done, in the form of a Business Mastermind group.

In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, they talk about how the group was formed, how they structure the sessions and most importantly what they both got out of the sessions.

58 - Get into the Style Vibe with Vanessa Lawrence

22m · Published 21 Feb 13:00

Personal Stylist, Vanessa Lawrence from The Style Vibe joins co-hosts Jane and Stacey to talk about how she hope that her new business venture will inspire confidence in the women and men that she serves.

While you may think that a personal styling session is something that only celebrities can afford to indulge in, Vanessa encourages you to think again.

She says that the emotional benefits of personal styling far out weigh the physical benefits. When we take a little more pride in our appearance, we start to feel more confident. And when we are confident we can conquer the world.

Vanessa urges us to stop putting ourselves last in line and to give ourselves permission to embrace and celebrate our features.

It doesn't have to cost you the earth either. One of Vanessa's services is to audit her clients wardrobe and use their existing clothes to formulate some fabulous new outfits. She tells to stop hanging on to all of those pieces that you are hoping to get back into one day and to start working with what you have. #nomoreexcuses

Vanessa's passion for this purpose is palpable. She is such a warm and lovely person with a genuine desire to help women and men increase their confidence by looking and feeling fabulous.

57 - Money, money, money. It's not that funny.

30m · Published 07 Feb 13:00

Money. Let's talk about it. We think we should talk about this more often.

Stace shares a massive win - she's just paid off a huge business loan! Woot. How did she do this? She shares her loan repayment strategy.

Jane has recently taken inspiration from Melissa Browne's book; Unf*&$ Your Finances. She took the financial detox as suggested in the book and she shares how it helped to increase her mindfulness with money.

Melissa's book also prompts you to explore your personal values around money, and how these values could be affecting your money management today. An a-ha moment right there!

Both Jane and Stace reveal their achilles heel of indulgence in business; professional development (and tutus).

This episode is a raw, revealing and honest episode about something that affects us so fundamentally in life. And while we don't want to just be all abput the money, we need to be all over the management of it if we want to be around in the future.

53 - The importance of self-care

23m · Published 24 Jan 13:00

Hands up if you look after everybody and everything before you even THINK about looking after yourself?

Stace kicks off this episode sharing her weekly goals framework - which is great by the way. But how easy is it for to-do lists to literally rule our lives. And how often is your self-care listed down on that to do list?

Jane shares how the physical and meditative benefits of her self-care salvation; Yin Yoga has helped face discomfort with more confidence which as helped ease her anxiety.

Stace (whose definition of self-care was limited to having a facial), shares how she has started to practice a really simple self-care routine that is significantly helping her cope with her family and business demands.

We also throw in a few more self-care suggestions that can truly nourish your body and soul.

In summary - schedule that self-care on to the to-do list people. You are worth it!

25m · Published 27 Dec 13:00
