Miss Bossy Boots Podcast

by Stacey Morgan & Jane Hillsdon

Stacey and Jane love a good chat. Especially when it comes to sharing stories about running their businesses. Stacey is a dance educator and principal of a dance school and Jane is managing director of a marketing agency. Both of them have ambitions as high as the heavens for their consecutive businesses. They are motivated, passionate and driven female business leaders who love to share their insight with anyone who will listen. They're also incredibly curious as to how other business leaders run their business. Most of all, they are determined to inspire more women into leadership positions. Having both been described as 'bossy' when they were little girls, the 'Miss Bossy Boots' Podcast was inspired by Sheryl Sandberg's famous quote 'I want every little girl who is told she is bossy, to be instead be told she has leadership skills'. 'Miss Bossy Boots' is the perfect avenue to embrace their leadership skills and to interview other inspiring business leaders from a huge range of backgrounds and share their uplifting stories. The Miss Bossy Boots podcast will be a fortnightly podcast after a saturated launch period of two weeks and will cover a range of topics to help encourage other women to lean into positions of leadership in their business, in their community and their industry.

69 - A different type of bossy boots - interview with Alana Roper

52m · Published 25 Jul 14:00

Alana Roper has a really powerful story to share. In April 2017, Alana's darling little boy Ozzie was diagnosed with leukaemia. He was two years of age.

Alana wrote to us via our Facebook page introducing herself as "a different sort of ‘bossy boots".

"I may not be a typical woman in business, however, the true power in an oncology mum is something else."

In this special episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Alana shares her journey from Ozzie's initial diagnosis through to where the family are today.

This is a story of resilience and love. Alana wanted to share her story to be the voice of so many families that are living with childhood cancers or who have lost children to cancer.

She says that while leukaemias are the most common type of cancer diagnosed among Australian children, accounting for around one third (33%) of all cases, this is not a topic that gets a lot of airtime. As a result, childhood cancers don't tend to receive as much funding. If it's out of sight, it's out of mind.

If you would like to help support Alana and her family you can follow her journey on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/ozziesheros/

If you would like to donate to help kids with cancer, check out Charlie's Run 4 Kids: https://www.facebook.com/charliesr4k/ This is a running group that raises funds for families who have kids with cancer.

68 - How to reignite our inner desires with Brooke Maggs from She Desires Episode 2

27m · Published 11 Jul 14:01

This is episode 2 of 'How to reignite our sensual vitality with Brooke Maggs from She Desires.

If you are a seriously busy, working mum who feels overworked, overwhelmed and overscheduled, then we highly recommend that you listen to this two podcast series.

She Desires is a business that delivers coaching and workshops to help very busy women (usually mothers) regain their sense of self and their vitality.

Hold. The. Phone!

Our interview with Brooke reveals a candid conversation about how the state of busy women's lives leads us with a complete lack of focus on our own sensual needs and desires.

Let's be honest, the need to connect with our desires is often easily pushed to the bottom of our list. In our efforts to drive our careers, to love and nurture our children, to be good wives / partners and friends, to contribute to our communities and to pretend that our hair is not greying and our tummies are not plumping - we can sometimes forget the benefits that spontaneity, excitement, risk and passion can add to our own vitality and our relationships.

In this episode, Brooke provides us with some practical approaches to help us re-embrace our sensuality.

These two episodes are well worth the listen. After interviewing Brooke, Stace and I left the recording studio with a whole new perspective on life. These are the conversations we need to have more of.

Enjoy.

66 - Winging It by Emma Isaacs - Jane's top take aways.

17m · Published 13 Jun 14:00

"One of the hardest decisions you'll ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder."

Ziad Abdelnour

This was one of the quotes included in Emma Isaacs much-acclaimed book; Winging It, that provided a huge a-ha moment for Jane.

In a follow-up to episode #62 of Miss Bossy Boots podcast, where Stacey shared her top three take outs from Emma Isaac's book about business, Jane now shares a couple of hers.

She relates Ziad's quote to business. "One of the hardest parts in business is choosing whether to walk away or try harder."

Having recently removed herself from her everyday life for a week with a trip to San Fransisco, Jane returned with much clarity, new ideas, free thinking and a renewed energy.

Two days later she resigned from a position that had been bothering her for at least twelve months.

"I was so torn in this position as everything within my heart screamed to give it up but my head kept instructing me to 'harden up and to not give up'!

"By just giving myself enough time to think, I was able to see with so much clarity that the only choice here was to walk away. Once I'd made the decision, I've never looked back!"

The second quote that resonated with Jane was:

"If you're the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room."

This is powerful. And it's so true. Surrounding yourself by people who lift you can help you step outside of your comfort zone and become a better person of yourself. Stace and Jane both make a huge effort to do this in their business life.

If you feel that these points may resonate with you, have a listen and we'd love to hear any additional comments or experiences you have about these over on our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/MissBossyBootsPodcast/

PS We highly recommend grabbing a copy of this book if you haven't read it already. it's full of aha moments and fabulous words of wisdom.
