Miss Bossy Boots Podcast

by Stacey Morgan & Jane Hillsdon

Stacey and Jane love a good chat. Especially when it comes to sharing stories about running their businesses. Stacey is a dance educator and principal of a dance school and Jane is managing director of a marketing agency. Both of them have ambitions as high as the heavens for their consecutive businesses. They are motivated, passionate and driven female business leaders who love to share their insight with anyone who will listen. They're also incredibly curious as to how other business leaders run their business. Most of all, they are determined to inspire more women into leadership positions. Having both been described as 'bossy' when they were little girls, the 'Miss Bossy Boots' Podcast was inspired by Sheryl Sandberg's famous quote 'I want every little girl who is told she is bossy, to be instead be told she has leadership skills'. 'Miss Bossy Boots' is the perfect avenue to embrace their leadership skills and to interview other inspiring business leaders from a huge range of backgrounds and share their uplifting stories. The Miss Bossy Boots podcast will be a fortnightly podcast after a saturated launch period of two weeks and will cover a range of topics to help encourage other women to lean into positions of leadership in their business, in their community and their industry.

34m · Published 09 Jul 14:00

Let's face it, no-one likes having difficult conversations. But as business leaders and small business owners, we, unfortunately, need to have many of them.

With the recent pandemic disruptions of COVID19, Stacey and Jane have had to have too many difficult conversations for their liking.

Seizing our financials by the horns with Suzie Barnaby

38m · Published 25 Jun 14:00

When you are under the age of about 50, planning for your retirement seems kinda, well, boring. And it just seems sooo far away!

Details concerning personal insurance, voluntary superannuation contributions and investment strategies can seem a little icky to many females and sometimes if we are honest, we can leave these boring details to the men in our life.

But in this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Suzie Barnaby; a Financial Adviser with Morgans in Port Macquarie talks us through the importance of taking this stuff more seriously (like now) and shares some inspirational insight into how we can turn this challenge into an opportunity.

Breaking glass ceilings with Barbara Ryan

44m · Published 11 Jun 14:00

Barbara Ryan lives in New York City. She started her corporate career working on Wall Street. In the late seventies. It's interesting to hear her talk about how much has evolved (and unfortunately how much has not) when it comes to ambitious females navigating their career trajectory over the last 4 decades in one of the worlds most cutthroat economies.

Barbara witnessed first-hand how little support women had in certain male-dominated industries. This inspired her to start the Fabulous Pharma Females group which is now chock full of CEOs and woman leaders in the pharma industry.

The group works to give women an opportunity to connect with each other and create a strong community of women with a shared commitment to one another.

In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Barbara candidly shares so much insight into how she managed to build a successful career as a senior leadership executive and working mum and how she now encourages females to lift each other up to help each other succeed.

Follow your gut. It never lies.

38m · Published 28 May 14:00

“Difficulties come when you don't pay attention to life's whisper. Life always whispers to you first, but if you ignore the whisper, sooner or later you'll get a scream”
― Oprah Winfrey

Gut feeling. Intuition. A little niggle. Instinct.

What do you call that thing in your body that emits an almost visceral message within you sometimes? You can't quite put your finger on it, but you know it's trying to tell you something. But what is it trying to tell you?

In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Jane shares a recent experience with her business planning where her intuition was practically reaching up from her gut to slap her firmly in the face. And, as usual, she ignored it and tried to fend it off with reason and logic.

But lunch with a wise friend in business soon revealed that her gut was trying to warn her off making a big mistake.
