The reality of life online with Sam Guggenheimer & Izzy Armitage

41m · Published 06 Feb 13:01

Sam and Izzy are figuring it out. After less than a year of full-time social media, the pair started their podcast ‘Just For Girls’ to chat, learn and figure shit out, and it has well and truly BLOWN up.

We asked for your questions and got Sam & Izzy’s answers: do people take you seriously? What do your parents think about what you do? How’s your friendship? What really goes on at influencer events? And we (Millennials) ask for their Gen-Z opinion on what’s hot and what’s not in 2024.

In this episode Sam also opens up about navigating an eating disorder.

If the conversation around eating disorders brings anything up for you, there is support available:

The Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s national charity for people impacted by eating disorders and body image issues. Free & confidential support is available at 1800 33 4673 between 8am – midnight

Your most cooked break up stories!

36m · Published 04 Feb 13:01

Break ups are bad…but these are worse. Laura’s been thinking about her own worst breakup story since reading ‘Good Material’ by Dolly Alderton, so we asked you for yours. Break up via Snapchat, left in a hotel with I Will Always Love You Playing, caught in bed with another partner…this is what we meant when we asked for your bad break up stories! Thanks to our community for sharing <3

And Steph shares about her recent experience getting help for pelvic pain, which opened up a conversation about being taken seriously by doctors and the important Australia-first inquiry into women’s pain.

Finding community through a cerebral palsy diagnosis – KICBUMP with Kic community member Kim

1h 12m · Published 30 Jan 13:01

Kim was 27 weeks pregnant with her first daughter when she noticed a tiny amount of bleeding. After almost a week in hospital, and a traumatic birth experience, Kim gave birth to Elsie. Elsie then spent 11 weeks in the NICU and in that time, Kim and her husband Greg learned that Elsie had suffered a brain injury through pregnancy or birth and she was given a diagnosis of spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.

In this episode, Kim shares her story with Steph: her mostly straightforward pregnancy with Elsie, Elsie’s traumatic birth, their NICU stay and how it felt to finally hold Elsie for the first time, learning of Elsie’s brain injury, finding support online from parents of children with disabilities, and the decision to have a second baby.

Thanks to Kic community member Kim for reaching out with her story. We hope her story helps other parents going through similar things feel less alone.

Kim recommended the book 'Special: Antidotes to the obsessions that come with a child's disability' by Melanie Dimmitt https://www.simonandschuster.com.au/books/Special/Melanie-Dimmitt/9781925384680

The best thing you can teach kids about food, movement & body image – KICBUMP with Taryn Brumfitt

38m · Published 16 Jan 13:01

Taryn Brumfitt is a body image activist, documentary director, writer, speaker, and the 2023 Australian Of The Year. Taryn created the documentary ‘Embrace’ to help us change the way we think about our bodies and ‘Embrace Kids’ to teach 9-14 year olds how to respect, move and nourish their bodies.

Kids learn their first messages about food, movement and body image from their parents but parents can’t control what messages their kids learn outside the home. This is where Body Blocks comes in: a free learning resource for childhood educators.

In this moving conversation, Taryn joins Steph to discuss how Taryn has reframed the parts of her body that changed through childbirth and feeding 4,000 meals to her children, the impact that parents’ and teachers’ language can have on kids for years afterwards, and the importance of sending positive messages to kids even if you don’t always feel them inside.
