Episode 68: Art Therapy with Ron Formento, Jr.

40m · Published 02 Nov 18:45

It's pretty amazing to see that as we age, we often come back to things we enjoyed doing as children. It's as if the artist, chef, magician, singer (fill in the blank) within us reemerges to heal and free us.

In this episode, Ron and I talked about why he started painting again and the impact it's having on his health and wellbeing. You will be amazed to hear how he is connecting with friends and strangers to bring about more connection, compassion and joy. If you've been thinking about reigniting a former hobby, now is a great time to get started.

Ron also changed careers in midlife.  It took courage and faith to step away from something he'd dedicated himself to and into a new opportunity. He's thriving in his new role and couldn't be happier.

If you'd like to connect with Ron, visit his website. Check out his blogs and take a look at the beautiful paintings he's done so far.

Episode 67: Food as Medicine with Dr Kent Christianson

1h 0m · Published 26 Oct 13:18

Dr. Kent Christianson is a licensed chiropractor, acupuncturist and internal medicine diplomat.

He practices functional medicine at the Holistic Chiropractic & Healing Arts Center in Naperville and loves to work with patients to improve their overall health & wellbeing, especially their digestive health.

In this podcast we talk intensely about my favorite topic — food as medicine.

Kent has been able to help his many of his patients identify the underlying causes of their symptoms and resolve them with food swaps and digestive enzymes, when applicable.

He loves to teach others about the healthy, whole-food plant-based dietary lifestyle he and his family enjoy. He and his wife are avid gardeners and enjoy eating plants and herbs from their harvest.

To learn more about his practice, please visit his website.

Episode 66: A Servant's Heart with Nannette Vanderheyden

37m · Published 20 Oct 23:44

It’s not often that you meet someone whose heart for service is so big. Supporting others is like a calling for Nannette. She is always ready to lend a helping hand at church, the food pantry or anywhere she’s needed. She is a proud mother and grandmother, actively involved in helping to raise the next generation.

Being a blessing to others is a wonderful thing to do in midlife. If any of you are thinking about getting more involved in your community, I urge you do to so. I’ve also had amazing experiences volunteering at non-profit organizations, attending bible studies and participating in book clubs. Schools are always looking for parents and grandparents who can help out in the classroom or during after school events. Your time and talents are needed, so don’t sit home bored and lonely when you can get out there and join the fun.

Episode 65: The Power of Positivity with Ron Hume, Freelance Humanist & Picture Taker

52m · Published 14 Oct 13:13

Ron Hume is well known for his jovial spirit and his giving heart - two very important aspects of his life we cover in this podcast episode.

Throughout Ron’s career, he used his time and talents to serve families at risk. Having lost his father at a tender age, he knew what it was like to feel out of control and could relate to his clients who were suffering from substance abuse, housing deficits and many other issues.

In 2015 Ron retired as CEO of 360 Youth Services in Naperville.

Around that time, he developed a keen interest in photography and decided to share his expertise by taking pictures at galas and other local events. As a former non-profit leader, he knows which photo opportunities to focus on and how to quickly snap a picture and exit the scene.

Ron is a wonderful storyteller. I know you’re going to enjoy hearing about his wondrous adventures. You will also be inspired and amazed by the way he dealt with a potentially life threatening health issue.

Find Ron Hume on Facebook or follow him on Instagram.

Episode 63: Splitting Time Between Two Homes with Pat Hoogendoorn

38m · Published 28 Sep 16:19

Are you dreaming of splitting your time between two or more locations?

Twenty+ years ago, Pat visited her best friend in Florida and fell in love with the climate. She traveled to the sunshine state several times throughout the year and eventually decided to get her own place. Having suffered with arthritic pain, the warmer weather was just the reprieve she needed during the winter season. Over time, she found she really enjoyed late fall and early spring. Today she spends half her time at her condo on the beach.

What's special about her story is that Pat ventured out on her own before it became trendy. Her husband of 55 years still enjoys living and working full-time in Chicago, so they have given each other the freedom to satisfy their own wants and needs, while maintaining a loving and resilient bond. Pat loves summers in Chicago and rather seamlessly re-establishes herself each spring. And, of course her husband and family come to visit her in Florida throughout her stay.

To learn more about this growing trend, read this article Living Apart Together.

As Pat mentioned in our podcast, she is guided by her faith and loves the following bible verses: Psalm 119:89-90 God’s faithfulness endures to all generations.  Psalm 50:1 “The mighty One, God, Yahweh speaks and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset”  Acts 20:35 …”It is better to give than to receive.”

Episode 60: Beautiful Faces Going Places - Women's Success Network with Carol Dockum

41m · Published 14 Sep 20:20

Carol Dockum's Beautiful Faces Going Places - Women Success Network is more than just a business directory, it's a visibility, education and connection platform for speakers, trainers, coaches, etc. to showcase their expertise. They offer in-person events such as  lunch and learns, empower hours, summits, virtual business weeks, webinars and so much more.

Beautiful Faces Going Places is affordable, convenient and enriching.  Who knew that going virtual would help business owners connect more authentically than in-person, but that has been my experience with this group and I’m thrilled to invite you to join us by clicking here. You can also join the facebook group by clicking here.

I have one testimonial I'm thrilled to share. I recently needed a graphic designer to create my podcast cover art. Carol connected me to one of her members and within a couple of hours I had a beautiful end product. If you're in the market for a graphic designer or virtual assistant, please reach out to Rhonda Holscher. She's amazing!

One of Carol's favorites quotes (and mine) by Maya Angelou is, "at the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel." Carol and her success team truly know how to make you feel welcome and empowered.

For those of you who are in the discovery phase of your business and open to support, please sign up for my friend, Helene Stelian's FREE Masterclass on Finding Your Purpose. This LIVE training program is for women over 40 who are seeking clarity and direction in their second half. It will be held on Saturday, September 18th via zoom. Listen to our short infomercial at the end of this episode and then sign up for the LIVE training by clicking here.
