50m · PublishedWe cannot under estimate the impact the pandemic has had on our kids. Thankfully, professional resources are available to offer them support and guidance. I just complete a certification program on resilience and would like to offer some initial thoughts.
To begin, in order to have the energy and capacity to deal with tough mental and emotional issues, we need to have strong physical stamina. This requires deep sleep, conscious eating and daily movement.
To enjoy deep sleep, create an environment that fosters it. Here are some initial ideas for you to try.
- Remove ALL technology including TV's, Computers and Cell Phones from the bedroom.
- Turn the wifi in the house OFF at night, if possible, or at least shut down computers and put cell phones on airplane mode (outside the bedroom).
- Pack up your school or professional work and remove it from your bedroom.
- Dim the lights 30+ minutes before bed to prepare your mind for rest.
- Keep a gratitude journal next to your bed and write down three positive things that happened that day. Let these be your thoughts as you close your eyes and prepare for a dream state.
If you'd like to chat about conscious eating, daily movement and other habits that cultivate resilience, please reach out to me.

Episode 49: Resilient By Design with Monica Bodurka
53m · PublishedResilience is not something we are born with, it's a set of skills we inhabit. Anyone can learn to be more resilient - given the interest and commitment to lifelong learning and self-love.
Monica and her team at the Leadership Wellness Group developed a curriculum called Resilient by Design that I attended over the last few months. It was a wonderful diversion for me during the pandemic to focus on my own wellbeing and learn something new I could share with all of you. Admittedly, these concepts are not new, but we are human and need to hear them over and over again until they stick.
If you would like help in this area, please reach out. I got so much out of this experience and would be happy to make a referral to Monica's program or share my own rendition of it with you. My mission or mantra, if you will, is LOVE, PLAY, GROW. The habits of resilience are nicely embedded within these concepts I'm using in my coaching practice.
If you are available on July 8th from 10 -4, please join me for a day at Soul Farm called Resilience Cultivated in Nature. Click on this link to learn more.

Episode 46: Sarah Weyenburg
1h 3m · PublishedI have met some amazing yoga teachers over the years. Each one has inspired me in different ways. Today I'm visiting with Sarah Weyenberg, owner of Happy Shiny Yoga, an online platform for beginner to advanced yogis. I had the privilege of practicing yoga in-person with Sarah when we lived in the same community. I really enjoyed her light-hearted nature, her ability to break down the poses into bite size pieces and her desire to keep her students safe in their poses.
As she said life is not always sunshine and rainbows, but there is always something to celebrate. People often come to yoga for the physical practice, but they continue to come back again and again for the emotional and spiritual connection between themselves and others. Your mat is a place for you to learn about yourself and to practice gratitude for life.

37m · PublishedDr Michael Meersman, DC, MS, ART focuses on the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, and getting people out of pain and back in control of their daily life. He is certified in Active Release Technique (ART), a soft tissue technique designed to decrease muscle pain and tightness, while increasing range of motion and function.
I have been working with Dr Meersman to complete my recovery from frozen shoulder. By utilizing an array of modalities like the ones offered at the Bannockburn Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center, I have been able to heal much faster than other people suffering from frozen shoulder.
It’s clear when you visit the office that they are up to date on ways to bring natural function back to the body. They have a pilates reformer and an open area for working through exercises. I always leave my appointments with stretches or movements I can do to continue my progress at home.
I feel empowered to take back control of my health and am proud of the work I’ve done to get here. I’ve done acupuncture, dry needling, cupping, hot yoga, physical therapy and chiropractic care.
I also did an interesting treatment called Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy in my doctor’s office. PRP has long been used by physicians to help speed wound healing and treat health issues like arthritis and injuries to muscles, tendons and ligaments. They don’t normally use it for shoulders, but I wanted to give it a try in order to heal my body from the inside out and I personally believe it helped some.
I’m grateful for everyone on my healing team and am super excited for you to learn more about Dr Meerman. In addition to working in the office, he is the team chiropractor for the Chicago Bears. If he can work to help endurance athletes stay well, I know he can help novices like you and me.

48m · PublishedAs much as parents try, sometimes food education happens outside the home. We've all that experience when our children try something at a friend's house that you've been begging them to try at home. To expand children's understanding of food and its impact on their overall life, four chefs from Chicago formed the non-profit called Pilot Light. They train teachers to bring food culture into their lesson plans for reading, writing, math and science. The students love the curriculum and bring what they learn home to their families.
