Time to rewrite your #bodygoals

28m · Published 24 Nov 21:00

It’s that time of year again, when the diet, fitness and beauty industries make a massive push for your dollars by convincing, reminding and confirming that you are not enough. Just some of the words for women’s bodies  I’ve seen used in advertisements recently include: lumps, bumps, crepey, jowls, excess, ugly.  I mean, really?! And the expectation is that we can and should ‘fix’ all of these ‘problems’ by Christmas! Like we need one more thing to do at this busy time of year.

Please don’t let this rubbish get to you. We need to stand together and say no to this stuff. In today’s episode, I’m offering you some alternative #bodygoals that you can actually do, don’t cost anything, and will feel good.

Fashion, Circular Economy, Autism & Business: A Chat with Kirsta Hawkins (Mutual Muse)

1h 8m · Published 10 Nov 21:00

Today I’m chatting with Kirsta Hawkins, the incredible woman behind the much-loved second-hand clothing business, Mutual Muse. We both started our businesses at the same time in the same neighbourhood, in May 2014, and our paths have been intertwined since then.

Kirsta shares the idea behind her business and how she’s made it a reality. We talk about her passion for fashion and helping people play with finding their personal style. Kirsta also shares about being diagnosed with Autism in her thirties, and how she felt like she’d finally been handed the life manual that was missing all those years. I loved chatting with Kirsta and I know you’re going to enjoy it too!

If I do nothing else today, I will...

18m · Published 03 Nov 21:00

Today I’m sharing a simple technique that could help you get clear on what matters to you, cut through some overwhelm, and ultimately feel good at the end of your day. Have a try starting your day with this sentence: ‘If I do nothing else today, I will…’

Have a listen to the episode for more on how and why to use this technique.

Walking Hibernation - Don't skip it!

16m · Published 20 Oct 21:00

Did you know there’s a phase that hibernating animals go through as they emerge from hibernation? It’s a time of gradually getting back into their usual activities, but slowly. As we emerge from our own hibernation periods (hello, the world’s longest lock down!) we would be very wise not to skip this step. In today’s episode I offer some suggestions for emerging from times of withdrawal or reduced activity, well.

Pregnancy & Infant Loss: Interview with Clare Chambers

1h 31m · Published 13 Oct 21:00

October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss (PAIL) Remembrance Month and 15th October is PAIL Day. In this week’s episode, I speak with Clare Chambers as she shares the story of her first pregnancy which ended in the stillbirth of her precious daughter, Skye, at 35 weeks. We talk about how Clare grieved, and continues to grieve, this devastating loss, the reactions of her friends and family, and how she managed to keep a loving connection with her body. Clare also shares some vital information for pregnant people to be aware of, to reduce the risk of stillbirth and support a healthy pregnancy and birth, as well as suggestions for how we can support loved ones who have experienced a miscarriage, still birth or neonatal death.

It’s a longer episode than usual, but this is not a conversation to be rushed.

Clare refers to a number of support services she’s found helpful and would recommend:

https://stillaware.org - Stillbirth awareness, education and prevention

https://preventstillbirth.org.au - Take the stillbirth promise to end preventable stillbirth

https://www.sands.org.au - Miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support

https://rednose.org.au - Research, support and education for ending baby and infant death

https://heartfelt.org.au - Giving the gift of professional photos to families who have experienced stillbirth or have children with life threatening illness.

Intuition vs. Anxiety

30m · Published 07 Oct 02:00

‘Trust your gut’ or ‘Listen to your body’ sound like great ideas! But what happens when your body (including your gut) is constantly sounding the alarm that you’re under threat, even when you’re not? Tuning into your intuition can be really difficult when your anxiety is constantly scrambling the messages. Today we talk about how to distinguish between intuition and anxiety, and what you can do to quieten your anxiety to give more space for your intuition to speak.

Be How You Wanna Be

19m · Published 30 Sep 06:00

Today I’m offering a shift of focus from what you’re going to do, to how you’re going to be. Sometimes we can be all about the to-do list, or achieving a particular goal, without giving attention (or intention) to how we want to be along the way. And this can lead to completing tasks or achieving outcomes, but winding up with a sense of dissatisfaction about how the experience felt, or the kind of person we became in the process.

Pausing to consider and set intention for how we want to be in a day, a project, a conversation or a challenge, can be hugely grounding and very rewarding. Have a listen, and give it a go.
