Chat with Jo Smith - Naturally Well with Jo

41m · Published 30 Jun 21:00

I’m delighted to introduce you to Jo Smith of Naturally Well with Jo. She is one of the most down to earth people I know, which is no doubt helped by the fact that she literally has her hands in the earth every day. Jo created an incredible market garden on Tasmania’s Bruny Island, which feeds not only her family, but the local community, cafes and restaurants. She’s also a yoga teacher, and a great friend to women, with a passion to help people reconnect with themselves, each other and the earth. She’s also the mum of two gorgeous twinnies (as she calls them). In our chat, I found myself drawn to reconnect with the earth and afterwards I went outside and took my shoes off, just to feel the earth beneath me.

I’m sure you’ll love Jo as I do.

Watch What You Say

35m · Published 24 Jun 00:00

My friends laugh at me for the way I talk about myself and my experiences. Ha, I laugh at myself! But there’s a reason I do it. I’m conscious that the way we talk about ourselves, our lives and experiences, matters. It makes a difference. So I’ve learned to keep an eye on what I say, both in my head and out of my mouth, and to ask whether or not it’s working for me.

In today’s episode, I share more and encourage you to pay attention to the commentary you’re running on your own experiences, and to consider whether it’s serving you well.

I share again about the book Songlines by Margo Neale and Lynne Kelly. It’s part of the First Knowledges series which will include six books highlighting the expertise and ingenuity of Indigenous Australians. Please check it out.

That time I asked for help

37m · Published 17 Jun 01:00

The fourth lockdown in Melbourne has been the toughest one so far for my business Eve. When it was extended beyond the initial seven days, I made a decision: I asked for help!

In this episode, I share what led to me asking our community for help, why that’s a big deal for me, and what happened as a result. And I chat about some of the reasons we might tend not to ask for help, and why we should do it anyway!

One Simple Question to Ask Yourself

15m · Published 10 Jun 03:00

In today’s episode I share with you a simple question I’ve found super helpful to ask myself. It helps me get perspective, shift my focus, and even pulls me out of a funk when I’m feeling a bit stuck. It’s a simple technique to help you zoom out and see the bigger picture.

In acknowledging our First Nations’ people today, I spoke about the book Songlines by Margo Neale and Lynne Kelly. It’s part of the First Knowledges series which will include six books highlighting the expertise and ingenuity of Indigenous Australians. Please check it out.

Let your Feelings Flow

36m · Published 04 Jun 01:00

What do you do when feelings start to arise? In this episode, I talk about the importance of allowing emotion to surface, and what to do with any resistance to this. I offer some tips for processing your feelings, and moving the energy of them through and out of your body, so you can return to equilibrium faster.

MABO DAY

3rd June is Mabo Day, and in this episode I share a little about Eddie Mabo. If you’d like to find out more (which you know I’d highly encourage!) here are a few documentaries you could check out:

Mabo (ABC iView)

The Mabo Case (SBS On Demand)

In this episode, I mention:

Tara Brach - a psychologist, author and teacher of Buddhist meditation. Check out her amazing self-titled podcast.

TRE - I’ve completed some training in this technique. It involves induced tremoring as a way of moving tension and stress stored in the body out without necessitating talking therapy. There have been some studies done showing really positive results for people experiencing PTSD.

#Waitdonothing - The Wrap Up

So, I spent 10 days in this experiment, where every time I had to wait, I resisted the urge to reach for my phone, and I just did nothing. In this episode I share some of my reflections, and those I’ve heard from others who joined in on the experiment.

You might like to do this experiment for yourself.

Wait! Do Nothing

18m · Published 13 May 01:00

How often are you waiting in your day to day life? Like waiting for the kettle to boil, waiting for an appointment, waiting for your friend to arrive. And what do you do with all this waiting? Most of us are pretty quick to pick up our devices and sneak in an email or two, send a text, or just have a scroll. One way or another, we fill the gap.  In this episode, I invite you to join me for a ten day experiment where we transform our waiting from filler to…. NOTHING. Let’s see how it feels to just wait without filling up the minutes with stuff.

Have a listen, and join me for #waitdonothing - A 10 Day Experiment.

Start with me on 15th May, or gather your friends and do it any time you like.

Head to my instagram to find out more and to join the experiment.
