Pavlov's Dog and Me

26m · Published 22 Sep 19:00

Today I’m sharing about the time I Pavlov-ed myself, and then coined the phrase, ‘Pavlov yourself!’ :D   When I found myself in a situation that I couldn’t change, but was regularly causing me stress, I did an experiment to see if I could change my conditioned response to the situation. And it turns out it worked! Listen to my story, and learn how you too can ‘Pavlov yourself!’

Following the Ayurvedic Clock

30m · Published 15 Sep 21:00

The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda teaches that nature is made up of five states: earth, water, fire, air and ether, and that different combinations of these form the doshas, Kapha, Pitta and Vata. You may have heard that each one of us has a particular type, made up of these doshas, but did you know that the doshas also govern different times of day? In this episode, we look at the Ayurvedic clock and how we might optimise our energy and wellbeing by aligning with these times. This is a great way of living any time, and I’ve found it especially helpful for providing some structure to my days during lockdown.

48m · Published 31 Aug 04:00

My friend and colleague, Kathy Peterson, and I just finished our first ever round of Project 333. It involves limiting your wardrobe to 33 items for three months. In this episode we chat about why we decided to do it, how the reality stacked up against our expectations, and the unexpected benefits of the experience. If you’re interested in living with less, reducing decision fatigue, or just trying something different, this could be for you. Have a listen as we chat through our experience and whether we’ll be doing it again.

Your Menstrual Cycle in Lockdown

20m · Published 26 Aug 03:00

Any time is a good time to get in touch with your menstrual cycle. But lockdown provides a unique landscape against which to witness your inner seasons. When you’re pretty much living groundhog day, you can really notice the ebbs and flows of your energy, motivation, mindset and mood. In today’s episode I talk about using the sameness of your lockdown days to observe the shifts in your menstrual cycle. You can, of course, still apply this if you’re not in lockdown. And if you’re not a menstruator, you can still witness your internal shifts, and give yourself permission to accept and flow with them, rather than struggling against them.

In this episode, I refer to the amazing documentary ‘In My Blood It Flows’ which is currently on Netflix. It’s a heartwarming and heart-wrenching insight into the life of an Aboriginal boy and his family, and some of the systemic issues  in our education system.

Please go watch it and learn what you can.

Showing up for Life's Bitter-Sweetness

18m · Published 19 Aug 03:00

Life is both awful and beautiful, devastating and joyful, bitter and sweet. In today’s episode I talk about embracing life’s bittersweetness and finding the exquisite richness in that. Rather than being overwhelmed with the suffering in this life, or ignoring it completely to pretend everything’s fine, what is it like for us to be present for all of it, one moment to the next, and perhaps sometimes all in a single moment?

I Wanna Be Like...

29m · Published 13 Aug 02:00

We don’t have to spend a fortune on books, webinars, courses and mentors to develop as leaders. There are lessons all around us all the time, if we’ll pay attention. In this episode I talk about observing and emulating qualities of leaders we respect, as well as learning from and avoiding replicating those we don’t. Rather than just reacting with admiration, comparison or judgment, why not use our observations to grow as humans and as leaders?

In this episode, I refer to NITV

Self Care on the Fly

19m · Published 05 Aug 03:00

Don’t wait until you can completely stop before you start looking after yourself. That’s a recipe for burnout. I’ve been moving house this week and I’m tired. In the past, I’d just tell myself to keep pushing and rest later. But these days, I know how important it is to care for myself even when I’m busy. So in this episode, I’m sharing with you some tips and tricks for self care on the fly.

Chat with Rach McPhail - Place Names in Addresses

47m · Published 29 Jul 04:00

It was my great pleasure to chat with Gomeroi woman, Rach McPhail today. Rach is the brains, heart and hard work behind @place_names_in_addresses campaign, advocating for the use of traditional place names in addresses. The campaign has gained huge momentum, going from an idea in 2020 to the recent move by Australia Post to include traditional place names in their guidelines for addressing mail. We talk about how Rach turned an idea into a reality, how she feels about being a leader, her experience of discovering her Aboriginal heritage in her thirties, why it matters for indigenous and non-indigenous people to see traditional place names in mainstream use, and lots more. Honestly, I could have chatted with Rach all day.

Connect with Rach on Instagram at instagram.com/place_names_in_addresses

Sign the petition for Australia Post to collate a comprehensive and accurate database of traditional place names, by consulting with Elders and First Nations knowledge-holders of each Country here:

Your Life is Your Curriculum

16m · Published 22 Jul 02:00

What if your circumstances are not happening to you, but actually happening for you? Imagine if the details of your life were part of a specific curriculum designed just for you, your growth, and ultimately your enlightenment. I first came across the idea of life as curriculum from the late Ram Dass, and I find it such a helpful way to frame my experiences. So if you’re facing some difficult times (Lockdown 5.0 for example!), see if reframing it like this makes a difference for you. And try it with the easier, lighter times too.

I refer once again in this episode to the book, Songlines: The Power and Promise by Margo Neale and Lynne Kelly.  Find it at your local bookstore. :)
