Arch Manning dominates in the Texas spring game, and Jaden Rashada enters the transfer portal

1h 7m · Published 22 Apr 20:15

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde begin the show by reacting to the Arch Manning buzz coming from the Texas spring game. They share why head coach Steve Sarkisian has the luxury of having two future NFL quarterbacks, and what the real expectations should be for Manning.

They continue their spring game observations with thoughts on the performances by Notre Dame and Michigan. Wetzel pokes fun at Harbaugh's recent tattoo for being too bland, as Forde projects Notre Dame's offense to be improved in 2024.

Wetzel then focuses in on the circus that was the Ole Miss spring game, that featured a dunk contest and a hot dog eating contest instead of actual on field action. They also analyze if this version of spring football could be the future.

Wetzel later shares a clip from Next Round Live, that poses the question "Is Nick Saban or Abraham Lincoln more important to America."

The crew shifts back to the transfer portal, reacting to former five-star quarterback recruit Jaden Rashada seeking a new home. Forde points out Rashada's constant changing of teams from high school until now.

Dellenger later shares the background of Jeffrey Kessler, and how his lawsuit is reshaping the future of college football, and creating compensation opportunities for athletes.

1h 12m · Published 17 Apr 19:56

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the show by dissecting the difference between the spring Transfer Portal window and the winter one. They analyze why less big name players are entering, and how large programs are purging their teams of back end roster depth.

They then shift their focus to Colorado, as Coach Prime loses more players to the portal. They discuss if there's concern for losing former 5-star DB Cormani McClain, and if fans should worry about their overall roster turnover.

Later, Dan brings up the final result of Michigan's recruiting investigation. They joke about how during all of this, Jim Harbaugh is out in Los Angels living his best life in an RV.

1h 0m · Published 09 Apr 07:24

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast by reacting to UConn's dominant performance in the National Championship game. The trio puts into perspective the historic back-to-back title run from UConn and how Dan Hurley has built the best program in college basketball. The three ponder what Hurley's current legacy is and what his ceiling could be.

The guys then react to John Calipari's exit from Kentucky to become the head coach at Arkansas. Forde looks back at what went wrong down the stretch for Calipari's tenure in Lexington. Wetzel ponders what big-time head coach Kentucky can land next.

After the break, the guys break down the historic Women's Tourney and the record TV viewership. Wetzel wonders if there will be continued growth for the women's game with Caitlin Clark leaving for the WNBA. Forde believes programs like South Carolina and stars like JuJu Watkins will be intriguing storylines next season but it's hard to know what exactly the Caitlin Clark void will be. Wetzel is very interested to see how Clark's career starts out in the WNBA.

The trio dissects how both tournaments have stars and storylines that have captivated the country. Wetzel marvels at the basketball powerhouse that UCONN has become for both the women's and men's sports. Forde tries to put into historical perspective the impact Caitlin Clark has had on the women's tourney this year.

Starting on Friday with the Women's Final Four and ending with the Men's national title game on Monday, Wetzel believes we could see a four day stretch of college basketball we've never seen before. The trio then discuss how the excitement around the Women's tourney this year should help the game move forward but Forde explains that there's still warts in the way people talk, cover and consume the women's game.

After the break, the trio breakdown the Alabama-UCONN and NC State-Purdue matchups. Forde explains how Alabama and NC State need to play in order to pull off the massive upsets. The trio also discuss the tantalizing matchup between Purdue's Zach Edey and NC State's DJ Burns in the paint. The three also debate if Burns' size and talent could translate to an NFL career.

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast by reacting to NC State's shocking win over Duke to put the program in their first Final Four since 1983. The trio can't get enough of the overnight sensation that is DJ Burns, who has helped fuel the Wolfpack on their magical run.

Forde highlights how NC State and Purdue have long had to live in the shadow of other dominant programs in their states and how both finally get to live in the limelight. Wetzel shares a story of Matt Painter and how close he was to playing, and potentially coaching, at Indiana under Bob Knight. Forde agrees there is an alternate reality where Matt Painter is doing what he's done for Indiana and not Purdue.

The trio after the break looks at the historic dominance of UCONN and if anyone can stop them from repeating as champs. Wetzel shares how the transfer portal built Alabama's fast paced, high octane team. Forde believes the Crimson Tide have to score 100 in order to pull off the massive upset to beat UCONN.

March Madness ratings tick up, Final Four picks and could new rule lead to super sized football staffs?

1h 7m · Published 27 Mar 20:54

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast by reacting to March Madness TV ratings and why this year's tournament has exceeded most people's expectation. Forde believes the combination of early upsets coupled with big time programs and storylines moving on to the second weekend will only help the tournament's interest. Dellenger points out that a record number of Americans will bet on the tournament this year.

The trio then discusses the ramifications of sports betting becoming a prominent part of March Madness and college sports in general. The crew then reacts to the news that John Calipari will be staying on as head coach in Kentucky. Wetzel believes the program can't move on from Calipari unless they have an immediate plan to replace him. Forde provides an update on Louisville basketball head coaching search, which has become down right nauseating.

After the break, the trio provides their updated Final Four predictions. Wetzel has a hard time staying focused for his picks, given he doesn't want to give them, and ends up sharing thoughts on a Harvard basketball player that has entered the transfer portal and goes on a tangent about what makes college hockey so great.

The trio ends the pod with Dellenger sharing a story on a potential new rule that could expand college football coaching staffs and change the way power house programs could recruit in the future.
