Art-Work

by Art-Work Podcast

After two years of supporting each other’s music projects to tour across Europe and the UK, Brea Robertson and Poppy Rose decided to work on a project they could do closer to home. Art-Work the podcast was born! Why Art-Work? We want to provide a platform for multi-disciplinary artists to share their work, their passion and their journey with a broader audience. We hope that people from all backgrounds will hear these stories and gain a deeper understanding into the minds, the life and the process of creative people from all over the world. We also want to shine a spotlight on independent artists who are not well known, to celebrate their stories and challenge the idea that to be successful in the arts, you need notoriety. So far, we have been amazed at the conversations we’ve had with artists from Canada, England, Germany, Australia, the USA, Norway and India. Stories of challenging social systems in India to pursue a passion, using the arts to fight political battles in Norway, discussing the art of balancing multiple projects as an artist, using music as a therapy in refugee camps across Europe and more. Every human has an incredible story, and we can’t wait to share some with you! Find us on Spotify, Google, Apple podcasts and Soundcloud.

Overcoming Societal Pressure in India

45m · Published 09 Jun 23:29
Today's episode is with Indian singer-songwriter, Jatin Khurana. In this conversation, we talk about Jatin's huge decision to walk away from studying engineering to pursue his dream of music - a very unusual path to take in India, where there is a lot of societal pressure to study engineering and sciences. We talk about how important Jatin’s community of fellow musicians in Mumbai have been to his success, and how he has fused his Indian roots and Hindi language with western styles of music to create something new and original within the Indian music scene. He's an incredible artist and we are so excited to share this conversation with you! Since we recorded this episode, Jatin's single 'Kaidee' has been featured in Rolling Stone India's Monthly Playlist - how cool is that!? You can listen to the song here: https://smo-kin.com/jatin-khurana/kaidee Follow Jatin on Instagram: @jatinkhuranna And here's the video Jatin mentioned that he recorded at the YouTube Space: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxClQwdkGl0 Join the Art-Work Community Facebook Group to connect with other creatives, share your art, and continue the conversation about the joys and challenges of living an artistic life! www.facebook.com/groups/370788747316965 Thank you so much for listening to this week's episode of Art-Work. Before moving to Berlin to pursue music, Bente spent years working for The People's Action for an Oil-Free Future, fighting against the Norwegian government’s plans of drilling for oil in the pristine Lofoten Islands that she calls home. Art-Work Podcast Trailer

Welcome to Art-Work! A conversation with creative people about the joys, the challenges and the mundane moments of living an artistic life. Join the Art-Work Community Facebook Group! linktr.ee/art.work Although a dream for a long time, Art-Work is a podcast that has been born out of the Covid-19 crisis, with the intention of connecting independent artists, who may not be able to work in their usual capacity, with an audience who are ready to consume new music, design, photography, spoken word or human stories. So who are we? We (the hosts of Art-Work) are Brea Robertson and Poppy Rose and we’re both multi-facetted artists currently based in Berlin. In 2017, we met in the singer/songwriter scene of Berlin and have spent the last two and a half years touring around Europe together playing our music in people’s living rooms, gardens and terraces. Brea is also a theatre worker and often works on projects that use theatre to help with education or rehabilitation, and Poppy has an online business selling homemade jewellery and visual art. After years of being on the road, we wanted to create a project that we could do a little closer to home, and we wanted to create a platform to shine a light on some incredible independent creative people, and thus the Art-Work Podcast was born!
