How to Thrive: Mind & Body Wellbeing for the Modern Woman

by Nickie Hursthouse

How to Thrive is the podcast for women transform their relationship with food, cultivate body confidence and unlock their true potential.

Your host, Nickie Hursthouse is a mum, business owner, dietitian and yoga teacher. Nickie has worked in the world of behaviour change and nutrition for 12 years. In that time she has seen how disconnected we have become from our bodies and how this then impacts how we feel around food.

By reconnecting with our body, respecting its needs and nourishing it properly, all women can feel confident around food and in their body.  Because everybody deserves to feel good in their body.

Nickie has coached CEOs, business leaders, business owners and everyday women to heal their relationship with food, with their body, unlock more energy, master their stress and have the resources they need to thrive.

We aren’t meant to navigate this world alone, community and accountability are essential when we want to make change. Nickie hopes this podcast will be your go-to place to educate and inspire, coming directly to you each week, and that it will allow you to take the first step towards where you want to be.

2. A Mind-Body Approach to Gut Health

17m · Published 06 Jun 17:00

A lot of people consider the body and mind as separate areas when we talk about health. However, there is ample scientific research that shows it makes no sense to separate these areas. You are a whole person and your brain and body are not separate entities.

When considering the management of functional disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome and other functional gut disorders, it is essential that a mind-body approach is used to ensure long-term management. This is not standard practice at this point in time, but through this episode, Nickie hopes you will begin to see how this approach can help you with long-term management of your health, so you can thrive.

In this episode Nickie covers:

  • The basics of your gut
  • The importance of the gut-brain connection
  • What functional gut disorders are
  • Managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome as a functional disorder
  • A Mind-Body approach to managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Within the episode, Nickie refers to The Danish Committee for Health Education resource “When the body says stop”.
