19m · Published 25 Nov 05:00

Consider this episode a pep talk for the holidays. In this solo round, I start by helping you eliminate excuses for getting off track this time of year. In the second half, I’ll give you five concrete strategies for winning the next month, complete with tips + tricks that are applicable all year long.

This one is quick and to the point, and packed with ways to make you successful this December.

Resources/links mentioned in this episode:

  • Will Smith video where he talks about building a wall brick by brick

Five tips for staying on track this holiday season:

  1. Pre-eat; eat something nutritious before you go to events, out to run errands or go holiday shopping, etc.
  2. Plan ahead by bringing snacks with you when you’re out and about, looking up restaurant menus in advance, being prepared when you travel, being intentional with your alcohol consumption.
  3. Nail the basics like veggie intake, water consumption, sunlight exposure, consistent exercise, quality sleep, and so forth; click here for a blog post that expands more on crushing these habits.
  4. Manage sugar cravings - click here for strategies.
  5. Reduce stress levels through:
  • Seeking professional counseling
  • Using small budgeting tips
  • Regular habits such as meditation (Headspace is the app I use*)
  • Reading (Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis and The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday are a couple of my favorites)
  • Yoga (Livin in Flow instructional videos are free on YouTube, and the founders were on episode number #10)
  • Exercise, journaling, and social experiences.

* I have no affiliation with Headspace and don’t receive compensation for the recommendation, I’m really just a fan. :)

#15: Let's Talk About Body Image with Shelby Lawson

55m · Published 12 Nov 22:00

BloomFit Training (@bloomfittraining) allows fitness professionals to become Body Positive Coaches, and leads workshops for groups on all things body image. I got to sit down with the founder of BloomFit Training, Shelby Lawson (@shelbitheyogini), where she got candid about what led her to start the business and how this interest in starting conversations around a taboo topic that affects us all has become a full-blown mission.

In this episode, we also cover:

  • What body positivity is and isn’t
  • How body positivity differs from the “fat acceptance” movement
  • The importance of talking about body image in the fitness space specifically
  • How to navigate social situations when people are putting themselves down
  • And more!

This conversation is so powerful, and I know it’s going to hit home for a lot of you. Please enjoy, and share with a friend who may benefit from hearing Shelby’s message as well. You can learn more about BloomFit Training (and workshops, certifications, and more) at bloomfittraining.com.

15m · Published 26 Aug 04:00

Welcome back to another Bite-Size Sunday episode, a short solo show where Preslie will cover a specific aspect of health and nutrition and give you tangible tips you can implement in your life today.

Today's episode is all about how to be your own health advocate, which is critical while you're trying to conquer a chronic illness, or just get rid of those "regular" headaches you have. #11: All Things Yoga with Taylor Wray and Tommy Mac

59m · Published 31 Jul 04:00

The power couple Taylor Wray (IG:  @taylor_wrayyoga) and Tommy Mac ( @tommymacstoryteller) are changing the game in the world of yoga. Separately they have their own businesses, and together they combine those with their passions to form Livin in Flow ( @livininflow), an approachable, inclusive, fun way to experience and advance the mind-body connection.

In this interview, we talk all about the misconceptions people have about yoga, who it's for (you guessed it, everyone!), the benefits, you name it. Taylor and Tommy also recount the first yoga retreat they led in Costa Rica, where they got stranded on an island in a storm, and the takeaways they and the guests have from that once in a lifetime situation.

"People come to yoga for the physical practice, and end up leaving with so much more." — Taylor Wray

We also chat about:

• What meditation is and isn't (hint: it doesn't mean you just "stop thinking")

• The different styles of yoga

• What Taylor and Tommy have learned about creating events

• How to navigate working with your significant other

Resources from this episode:

#10: Choosing Happiness and the Beauty of Improvising with Jill Petersen

56m · Published 09 Jul 04:00

Jill Petersen (IG:  @jillpetersen8) is truly one of a kind, and I am thrilled to share her story with you on this episode. We start by discussing the two times, yes two, that she has left a stable career to pursue a bigger purpose. Most recently, she has added entrepreneur to her resume, and shares how her new venture will empower women to embrace self-care, live a purposeful life and let go of the baggage they may be carrying that's holding them back.

We also chat about:

• The ONE major thing her former manager told her that changed the way she lives her life (and how you can use it too!)

• How to get past the doubt that sets in after you make a bold change or take a leap of faith

• The negative implication of the word "just"

• The power in exploring the things you're secretly passionate about

• Ways to maximize the gifts you already have

• Why learning how to improvise is so important (with a hilarious example)

Throughout the entire conversation, there are moments of vulnerability, laughter, relatable stories of struggle, and tangible tips on coming into the best version of yourself. Jill is so full of energy and encouragement, and her perspective is exactly what you'd want to hear from a friend over coffee  — a reassuring pat on the back, a boost of support, and a lot of love. Please enjoy!

#9: 30 Pounds Lost with So Much Gained with Charlee Moseley

47m · Published 21 Jun 04:00

Charlee Moseley (IG: @charleemoseley) is a client of Hey Preslie Nutrition who has lost 30+ pounds during her time in the program, and gained so much of her life back; from the confidence and energy to do things she'd been missing out on, to significantly improving her major health markers.

Now she can walk around her favorite destination, Disneyland, without her feet aching and the uncomfortable temptations of food, and truly enjoy the experience. Her optimistic attitude and natural tendency to focus on appreciating the non-scale victories has helped her solidify these healthy lifestyle changes and new-found freedom for years to come.

We kick off the conversation talking about how the lack of genuine fulfillment in Charlee's medical career led her to go back to school and pursue her passion for writing and reading. Then, we dive into the importance of tracking the small wins during your health journey, the value of having a supportive environment in your life, and what Charlee has learned about finding the health approach that works for you personally, as opposed to what's trendy or works for someone else.

Books mentioned in this episode:

- You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, by Jen Sincero

- From Here to Eternity, by Caitlin Doughty

Wherever you're at in your health journey, you'll get a lot out of this one. Please enjoy!

#8: Bite-Size Sunday — Water Intake

8m · Published 03 Jun 04:00

This is the first installment of Bite-Size Sunday, a brief solo show where in 5-10 minutes, Preslie will cover a specific aspect of health and nutrition and give you tangible tips you can implement in your life today.

Today's episode is all about water and staying hydrated - why it matters, how much you need, and FIVE practical ways you can increase your intake.

Here's an overview, along with links mentioned in the episode:

Tip 1: Get a water bottle you love, like a Hydroflask or Yeti, and a straw attachment. Cover it with stickers you love, like this one!

Tip 2: Set alarms on your phone to remind you to drink water every 1-2 hours. And, create time or activity associations, such as drinking water every time you eat a meal/snack or when you're at a light while driving.

Tip 3: Increase slowly - build up your intake 5-10 ounces at a time, letting your bladder adjust in between, so you're not constantly running to the bathroom.

Tip 4: Set visual goals, such as checkboxes or marks to achieve throughout the day. Also, an app like Plant Nanny can help you stay motivated and on top of your intake.

Tip 5: Spice up your water with fresh cut produce such as berries, watermelon, lemon, lime, or mint leaves.

Hope you enjoy this one, and go get those sips in!

"I knew that I was built for something bigger than I'd even discovered. And I figured doing the things that scared me the most would get me there." —Bree Pear

Bree is the founder of Only Human (IG: @onlyhuman), a community organization that through social entrepreneurship, apparel and events, advocates for a variety of causes that people don’t frequently discuss on social media such as homelessness, suicide, mental health, human trafficking, and more. We start the conversation with the history of the company, what caused Bree to live in her car (and then the inventory room), and the variety of ways Only Human creates an impact and cultivates community. Then, we discuss her healthy lifestyle journey and how she stays active and keeps her nutrition on point when on the road between events and while juggling a busy schedule.
