About Our Guest:
Cynthia is a Research Professor at the University of Washington, her clinical and research expertise is in the development of body awareness to improve health and well-being. Research studies have focused on the study of MABT for multiple health conditions including Substance Dependency, Pain, PTSD, and HIV (see publications page). Interested in the processes involved in learning mindful body awareness, Cynthia studies qualitative aspects and underlying mechanisms of the MABT approach. She is a co-author of two scales to measure interoceptive awareness: the Scale of Body Connection (SBC) and the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). Committed to increasing health care access to underserved populations, Cynthia works with local and international programs to provide and improve complementary and integrative health care through her research, teaching, and service.

Cindy Spence has been a massage therapist since 1999, when her father-in-law’s dying wish for gentle touch inspired her to attend massage school. About Our Guest:
Dr. Dupont graduated from State University Limburg at Maastricht, the Netherlands, with a Bachelor in Science degree in Movement Sciences. In 1995 she received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. In 1999 she became Assistant Professor of Geriatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and in 2006 she accepted a position as Associate Professor in the College of Health Sciences Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Kentucky. In 2015 Dr. Dupont-Versteegden was promoted to full professor and in 2016 she accepted the position of Director of the Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program.
