About Our Guest:
Mai Lin Petrine is the Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). In this in-house counsel role, she works closely with the executive management team in areas of policy formulation, contract management, legislative advocacy, and risk management. Prior to joining the FSMTB, Mai Lin was an associate attorney at The Atkinson Firm, in Northbrook, IL. She received her law degree at the University of Miami and her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. She was on the Editorial Board of the University of Miami Law Review and previously served as a litigation attorney at Lord, Bissell & Brook (now known as Locke Lord LLP) in Chicago, IL representing a number of Fortune 500 companies in jurisdictions across the United States. Mai Lin is an expert at communicating in multiple venues for a variety of audiences and at managing relationships with a diverse range of constituents and stakeholders. Mai Lin brings the perfect blend of intellect, tenacity and empathetic leadership to all of her professional engagements and accomplishments.

Cal and Corey talk with Gordon MacDonald, Executive Director of the RMTBC about regulation, education, and the parallel paths of nursing and massage in Canada. This conversation explores our shared challenges of supporting a profession in transition.

About Our Guest:
Gordon has a long history of working at a senior level within B.C.’s health care, education, and regulatory sectors. These include Senior Consultant at Health Match BC; Vice President, Regulation and Program Development at CIBT Education Group; Associate Director, Douglas College. He has also served as Executive Director/Registrar of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of BC and is formerly the Program Director for the Healthcare Labour Adjustment Agency of BC. He has provided strategic leadership in working with health regulatory bodies, both provincially and nationally. Additionally, he has served on several boards and committees including, the Health Human Resources Advisory Committee for the BC Ministry of Health, the BC Labour Force Development Board for the Ministry of Labour. He is currently the Executive Director of the Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of BC and Chair of the Canadian Massage Therapy Association.

Cal and Corey sit down with Debra Persinger, executive director of FSMTB to talk education, (de)regulation, and what it takes to keep both consumers and massage therapists safe.

Debra brings a rare combination of management experience, examination expertise, and national and state legislative know-how to the FSMTB where she is the executive director. Debra impacts the mission of FSMTB by valuing and supporting people through fostering a culture of caring and advocating for public protection and being courageous in fighting fraud and human trafficking.
