EPISODE 118: Unlocking what is holding us back with Elizabeth Halpin

1h 3m · Published 07 Jun 04:00

This season on We Go Boldly we will walk through what holds us back from living our best lives and doing all the things we dream about doing. We are focusing on how we can overcome our fear and doubt, be bolstered by faith, take risks, meet opportunity, and imagine unlimited possibilities. Every week we will work through a different aspect of what it means to both pursue our passions and accomplish the mundane; and how these topics help us to reach for our potential and live our boldest, most honest lives.

Our goal this season is to explore what is holding us back, keeping us locked away behind our imagined limitations, and stopping our growth. We coach women to live their version of a bold life and pursue their unique path. This season is all about taking action and living our best lives.

Today we are broadening our own horizons and talking to an incredible guest and new friend to the show. Welcome Elizabeth Halpin!

Elizabeth Halpin has been a member of the senior leadership team at Seton Hall's School of Diplomacy and International Relations as well as the University's 4-year undergraduate leadership development program, the Buccino Leadership Institute. EPISODE 15

1h 2m · Published 17 May 04:00

“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.” – Dr. Brené Brown

How do we put ourselves forward when something is holding us back? Do you struggle remembering that you have been successful? Do you let the self-doubt get loud? Hello imposter syndrome!

What about the cultural conditioning and discrimination that holds us back?

When we’re unaware of it, cultural conditioning can act as a formidable force against our ability to evolve. The beliefs and behaviors we’ve accepted as the norm give us a sense of comfort and control. So when changes occur in the world or among the influences in our life, they can challenge our cultural beliefs and make us uneasy to the point where we must make a decision.

In order to push forward despite these many things holding us back we need to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is needed to be courageous, but it doesn’t mean that if you’re courageous, you don’t experience fear. At We Go Boldly we don’t push through our fear, but we do let ourselves experience it, and move on.

This week we talk about how to strengthen our ability to be vulnerable, take risks, overcome imposter syndrome and put ourselves forward! This is a doozy of an episode. Join us!

Don’t forget to smash that subscribe button, rate and review us!

GO BOLDLY HOMEWORK

  1. Consider this: where can you be more vulnerable in your life?
  2. Baby steps: take one step this week toward building your vulnerability muscle, then two baby steps next week, and so on.
  3. Join our weekly women's circle!

EPISODE 113: Unlocking what holds us back, worst case scenarios

1h 2m · Published 03 May 17:45

This week in Unlocking What Holds Us Back we are asking ourselves what is the worst that could happen. We Go Boldly into the nuances of when, where and why to use this concept to help work through the things that are weighing you down and keeping you from living the life you want. There are a host of different ways in which we can use questions like this to overcome hurdles and obstacles in our own minds.

We also talk about when not to use this question to try and help yourself override discomfort or fear. Anxiety and depression are real concerns and if this is a question that adds to your anxiety then it is not right for you.

As we walk through the idea of asking what is the worst that could happen we discover the ability to think about this in a non-judgmental manner. Using our objective reasoning skills, the question helps us parse through our own fears, worries and self-inflicted limitations. Join us as we discuss what is holding us back this week.

GO BOLDLY HOMEWORK

  1. Practice imagining outcomes/negative visualization for a decision you have to make this week. Think about both the best case and the worst case scenarios.  Right down options.  If you find that your worst case scenarios are too extreme, refocus on your best case scenarios.
  2. Join our circle. Let us provide the support to help you thrive through your best and worst case scenarios.
