Epic Risks come with Epic Criticisms (Be Like Bey Anyway)

13m · Published 31 Jul 00:00

Last week's episode was inspired by Taylor Swift.
This week it's Beyonce.
(And @bluecentric who shared about this on IG)

A NYT music critic wrote a scathing review of Beyonce's first solo album back in 2003.
Imagine if she had let his criticism stop her.

From My Pre-Covid Era: Imposter Syndrome

25m · Published 24 Jul 23:00

It’s Taylor Swift Week in Seattle, so of course I found a way to include her as a topic for this week’s podcast. As I embraced my inner Swiftie in prep for her amazing Eras tour show, I was thinking about the journey she’s taken. It reminded me of one of the most downloaded podcast episodes I did in my “pre-COVID era” 😂 about Imposter Syndrome.

Listen for inspiration from Taylor's success, a replay of the original episode, and thoughts about the current Imposter Syndrome controversy.

How to Feel Better in Any Situation: You Always Have Options

28m · Published 15 Jul 03:00

This week, we're picking up where we left off last time.

Your answer the question "why is this a problem for me?" will give you the root cause of the issue. This is the core thought or belief that is making it so difficult.
You can then use this insight as a guide to solve your problem & begin feeling better.

Because you always have options.Even if at first it seems hopeless.

And your options to feel better will always fall into one of these 3 categories:
👉🏻Change the situation
👉🏻Address your thought
👉🏻Allow your uncomfortable emotion

Take a listen to hear how this works in a real-life situation I had a few years ago.
And as you do, think of a situation in your own life where you feel stuck or frustrated or hopeless. Then make a list of all the options you have to feel better. You might be surprised to find that you have more power than you think!

This One Question Can Change Your Life

14m · Published 08 Jul 00:00

This week, Jenny shares one of the best questions you can ask to coach yourself:

Why is that a problem for me?

As usual, it sounds simple but is surprisingly powerful.

Next time someone is driving you crazy and you feel like you are stuck, try asking this. It will help you figure out what is really going on, and how you can make things better.

The Fastest Way to Calm Down a Child (Lessons from My Kids)

22m · Published 30 Jun 17:00

This is going to sound too simple, but I promise it works.
It doesn’t solve everything but it gets easier from there.
Usually my child begins visibly calming in under a minute.

It's not...
👉🏻Trying to solve their problem
👉🏻A pep talk
👉🏻Using logic to convince them their emotion doesn't make sense
👉🏻Explaining why their behavior is problematic
👉🏻Rewards or consequences

It's easier than all of that: Just validate their emotion!

It might sound like:
“You’re right. This sucks.”
“It makes sense you feel angry.”
“I hate it when my food isn’t the way I expected, too.”
etc.
(Add a hug if possible.)

And the best part? It helps with everyone, not just kids.
Because putting emotions first improves ALL relationships.

Try it and let me know how it works for you!
