Must-Have Apps for Mental Wellbeing: You Need to Try These (Especially if you have ADHD!)

28m · Published 29 Sep 20:00

Ready to improve your emotional and mental health, all at the tip of your fingers? In this episode, I share three smartphone apps that have been game-changers for my mental wellbeing. I truly believe everyone can benefit from using these tools, and they are particularly invaluable for working moms with ADHD (like me and many of my clients).

1 - "How We Feel" - Improve your emotional intelligence, learn emotional regulation skills, track your moods and find patterns, and even share them with your loved ones if you choose. This app was created with the help of Marc Brackett, PhD, a Yale professor who studies emotions and wrote the excellent book "Permission to Feel." The app is quick & easy to use, and entirely free.

2 - "Insight Timer" - The largest available collection of free meditations, with options to suit every preference, as well as sleep meditations, sleep stories, white noise, yoga and more. This app is flexible and easy to use even if you find meditation difficult to fit into your schedule. There is a truly optional paid Pro membership if you want more content, but you still get access to more free meditations than anywhere else. When you first join Insight Timer, it can feel overwhelming, so to help you get started, I've put together a list of links to my favorite free Insight Timer meditations. Download it here.

3 - "Focus@Will" This app provides music specifically optimized to help you focus and be more productive. It was created after extensive research and the music is personalized to the way each person's individual brain works. It has been absolute game-changer for my focus and productivity. This one is not free, but it's affordable, and there is a 1 week free trial so you can be sure it works for you before you spend any money. I'm not one to spend money on apps, but I invested in this because it works so well!

Read to try them out for yourself? Check out these links:

I hope you love these tools as much as I do!
(Notes: I am not an affiliate and I do not receive any financial compensation for recommending these apps. I have used all of these only on Apple devices and have not tried them on Android. )

When Your Brain Calls BS: How To Believe New Things

14m · Published 16 Sep 00:00

Did you know it is possible to believe new things? This week, I'm sharing a simple strategy to do just that.

Sometimes we hear a concept on a podcast or social media post and it makes sense, but it sounds too good to be true. We think "Sounds nice...for her. It's not true for me. " I think of this as my brain calling "BS" on it. Or perhaps it sounds completely reasonable and we decide we want to adopt that mindset...BUT later, you realize you aren't acting in alignment with the new concept. You haven't shifted your mindset, and you're stuck in your old patterns.

This is because simply hearing ideas or repeating them like "mantras" doesn't always work. In order to change your life, you have to truly believe and embrace new thoughts.

One way to help your brain begin to believe new things is to add "softening" words to the beginning or end of the thought, such as:

"what if..."
"it's possible..."
"maybe..."
"I'm learning..."
"I'm considering..."
"...sometimes"

Take a listen to this quick episode to hear how it works. Then choose one new thought you will "soften up," write it down, and review it at least once a day.

This is just one of the strategies I teach my private coaching clients. If you're ready to work with me to get faster & more personalized results, schedule a free consult today.

Are you struggling to truly enjoy your life and career? You've worked hard, you've built an incredible life...yet somehow, you still feel stuck and unhappy.

If so, this episode is for you!

Today, I'm sharing 5 simple yet powerful mindset shifts that can help you feel better in any situation - even if you can't find a way out, or you can't get the other person to change.

Remember the 5 Unspoken Rules that are at the root of our frustrations? Each Mindset Shift is an antidote to one of those Rules:

1 Arguing with Reality /Emotional Immaturity> I can feel better without changing them
2 Perfectionism> It's ok for me to get it wrong
3 People-Pleasing> It's ok for them to be wrong about me
4 Hustle Mindset> I am a human being, not a human doing
5 Hyper-Rationality> Feelings first, Logic Later

5 Unspoken Rules Every Working Mom Should Rethink

20m · Published 19 Aug 04:00

This week, I'm sharing the Unspoken Rules that keep working moms stuck in exhaustion and overwhelm. These rules are beliefs that have been ingrained in us by family and society since childhood. Often we aren't even consciously aware of them anymore, but we still follow them and they can have a lot of power over how we feel and how we act.

I've found that all high-achieving working moms have Unspoken Rules that boil down to one ore more of 5 categories.

They all center around what we think we "need" in order to feel good:
In order to feel better, I need...
1 Them to change / This thing to change (Arguing with Reality / Control Enthusiasm)
2 To be perfect/To get it right (Perfectionism)
3 Them to like me / approve of me (People-pleasing)
4 To get more done (Hustle Mindset)
5. People to be logical (Hyper-Rationality)

These Rules aren't all bad; in fact, many of them have helped us succeed in the past. But if you're struggling right now, I guarantee that at least one or more of these rules is at the root of it.

Listen to hear more about how these Rules show up in our lives, how to uncover your Rules by asking "why is this a problem for me?" and more!

This is just a quick overview, so be sure to also grab the free replay & slides from my webinar " How to Feel Better: Stop Following These 5 Unspoken Rules for a deeper dive into this topic.

They Didn't Pick Me

31m · Published 14 Aug 16:00

This week, I’m sharing about a painful rejection I experienced recently. This episode is raw.  There are a few tears along the way. (You’ve been warned!)

I wanted to share this openly because I’m betting you can relate. And I want you to see how it looks to coach yourself through it.

I know this is not the done thing. High achieving women - especially coaches - are supposed to have it all together. To be confident. We share our wins.

But the truth is, we also lose sometimes. We fail.  And if we don’t talk about it, we all just continue to feel more isolated.

So I’m putting it out here:
I “lost.” They didn’t pick me.
I’m not letting it stop me.
And neither should you. 💕

Epic Risks come with Epic Criticisms (Be Like Bey Anyway)

13m · Published 31 Jul 00:00

Last week's episode was inspired by Taylor Swift.
This week it's Beyonce.
(And @bluecentric who shared about this on IG)

A NYT music critic wrote a scathing review of Beyonce's first solo album back in 2003.
Imagine if she had let his criticism stop her.
