Rediscover yourself: You are not what you have been through - #26 | Dr Viv
7m · PublishedOften times the most difficult thing following a bad life experience is that many of us lose ourselves and identity in the process; whether you’ve lost yourself in your job, a relationship, a traumatic situation, poor health, your struggle with parenthood or simply feel lost in life in general, I want you to know that you are not alone.
In this episode I remind you that you are not what you have been through or what you do. Finding yourself again is about rediscovering yourself and finding yourself, identity... "who you are" inspite of what is happening to you or going on around you.

How to help prevent suicides - #25 | Dr Viv
5m · PublishedDepression can happen to any one of us and often without warning. In this time and age, it is ever so important that we are all aware about mental health and how we can help.
In this episode for World mental health day 2019, I talk about suicide and suicide prevention - How we can prevent suicide by being kind and less judgemental, giving hope, and not giving people the go to hell talk. Many of us make the mistakes in ignorance but education will help us get better at supporting those in need of being prevented from taking their own lives.

The benefits of being openminded - #24 | Dr Viv
8m · PublishedAre You Open Minded? ... Or do you feel you have a good grip of things and know pretty much everything?
In this episode I talk about the benefits and power of being open minded and the dangers of closing ourselves off to new things and ideas. We are often a product of our experiences (good and bad), backgrounds, cultures and education... but its amazing what we can find out when we keep an open mind. Only when we learn to open our minds and hearts to new ideas and ways of thinking can we continue to grow and develop as people.

How to value things for a happier life - #22 | Dr Viv
8m · PublishedOften times the things we place value on have a way of making us vulnerable - be it nice jewellery, a car, job, or key relationships we have like family and friends.
In this episode I talk about how we value things (especially material things) and the impact the value we place on things can have on our happiness and wellbeing. I have been work in progress in this area, doing what I can to devalue certain things, so they don't negatively impact me as much as they could, should something happen to them. What are your priorities? What is important in your life? What can you you devalue in your life because they are not as important as you've made them so far? Mind you - You can't devalue family and true friends.

How to manage everybody's opinion - #18 | Dr Viv
6m · PublishedAs Les Brown says, "Other people's opinion of you does not have to become your reality". But we live in times when everyone has an opinion of you ; of who you should be, what you should do or how you should even react in situations... and if we are not careful, other people's opinion will negatively impact you. I've been there.... and especially when you are desperate for a solution to a problem, everybody's opinion can be overwhelming
In this episode I share tips on how to manage people's opinions and expectations so they don't negatively impact you. It is OK to ask for advice (I do it all the time) but I am for example getting better at discerning what advice to take and how to push back on people's opinions. Everybody is also entitled to their opinions but they should respect our rights to take them or not.
