In today’s episode, we welcome Bonnie Hancock to discuss her fear of regret, paddling around Australia, the preparation before her journey, her work beyond competition, mentoring, supplements she consumed during her voyage, crossing borders during the COVID-19 pandemic, and breaking the 24-hour distance paddling record.

Bonnie Hancock is a world record-breaking paddler, community leader, public speaker, and author. Bonnie became a professional Ironwoman at seventeen years old in which she competed in 9 Nutri-Grain Ironwoman series representing Australia. Recently, Bonnie became the fastest person to paddle a surf ski 12,700kms around the Australian coastline. It was only two weeks later that she took on the world record for the furthest distance paddled in 24 hours, completing 234 kms on her surf ski at Airlie Beach.

In today’s episode, we welcome Orla O’Dwyer and Taylor Smith to discuss the rise of female athletes, their future after AFLW, what their training schedule looks like on a weekly basis, the drive they have to promote women’s sport, how the AFLW helps players off the field, and winning the 2021 AFLW premiership.

Orla O'Dwyer is a talented athlete and a valued member of the Brisbane Lions AFLW team. At 24 years old, Orla has made her mark in the AFLW over the past three years. With a strong sporting background, Orla grew up playing hurling and Gaelic football for her county in Ireland, showcasing her skills and passion for the game. In pursuit of her AFLW career, she made the courageous move to Brisbane in 2019. As the oldest of four siblings, Orla comes from a sporty family and credits their support as a driving force in her journey. Her love for sports and close-knit family bond continue to shape her success on and off the field.

Taylor Smith is a highly driven and determined individual, both on and off the field. Taylor's athletic journey began as a dancer during her primary school years, and she later transitioned to track and field, specializing in heptathlon. After a period away from competition due to injury, Taylor discovered her passion for AFL and has been actively playing for the past six years. In 2023, she enters her fifth season of AFLW, demonstrating her skills and dedication to the sport.

Nick Lumley, the Head of Performance for NSW Waratahs Rugby, brings a wealth of diverse experience to his role. He has previously worked with the Scottish Rugby Union, coached both 7s and 15s formats, and served as the Head of Strength and Conditioning for Edinburgh Rugby. Lumley has also contributed to the Welsh Rugby Union and Gloucester Rugby Club. His academic qualifications are equally impressive, including a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Bath, an MSc in Strength and Conditioning from St Mary’s, and accreditations from the UK and Australian Strength & Conditioning associations. Additionally, he holds a diploma in sports nutrition from the Institute of Performance Nutrition in the UK. Lumley's extensive experience spans multiple sports, including judo, track and field, and bobsleigh, making him a versatile expert in the field of sports performance. His knowledge goes well beyond rugby, allowing him to optimize performance across a wide range of sports.

In today’s episode, we welcome Dr. Mac to discuss his career in the Florida Panthers, his own take on the toughest sport in the world, the day-to-day life of an NHL athlete, innovation in professional sports, and a 6-hour long NHL game.

Dr. Chris McLellan is the Vice President of Sports Performance at the NHL Florida Panthers. Dr. Mac had previously worked as a Professor and Head of School for the University of Southern Queensland's School of Health and Medical Sciences since 2019. Prior to his time there, he served as a Professor of Sports and Exercise Science at Bond University. In addition to his academic positions, Dr. Mac concurrently led strength and conditioning, sports science, and athletic development programs as the director of athletic performance at the Gold Coast Titans in the National Rugby League and sports science coordinator with the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League. Dr. Mac holds a Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science, a Master's degree in Physiotherapy, and a Doctoral degree in Applied Sports Science.

Lachlan has an impressive 17 years of experience in Strength and Conditioning working with individuals ranging from fitness enthusiasts to elite-level athletes. Lachlan completed his Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science as well as his Honor’s thesis in Sports Science. Lachlan started his career with the AIS-AFL Academy and NSW/ACT AFL Academy, laying a solid foundation before holding a position at GWS Giants AFL Club as the Senior Athletic Performance Coach for 7 years, specializing in strength and power. Lachlan has also worked as Head of Athletic Performance at the Parramatta Eels and is currently Head of Physical Preparation at NSW Swifts Netball. Lachlan is also a Co-Owner/Director of Coaching and Performance at Athletes Authority and a board member of the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA).
