Notes To Self Segment - 004: How To Relieve Yourself From Expectations

31m · Published 04 Dec 13:00

*CUE THE CIRCUS MUSIC*

Does your life feel like a scene from a movie? Or maybe a drama? Or maybe a thriller?

LIGHTS. CAMERA. ACTION!

We’re always in motion. We’re always “needing” to perform…to live up to someone’s expectation…to put on a show. Our attention spans are shrinking by the day. How can you possibly keep up?

Welcome to the 4th episode of “Notes To Self”, a segment of Found Family Podcast. “Notes To Self” are literally notes that I’ve written to myself on the Notes app on my iPhone where I admit my worst fears, talk about my triggers, and word vomit limiting beliefs as well as life-changing revelations on my recovery journey. Get ready to REAL talk, girl. Coz s**t’s about to get real.

Notes To Self on 1/2/2017:

The reason why I’m afraid to chase after my dreams is because there will be an expectation upon me to constantly perform. That thought terrifies me and makes me feel trapped. I don’t want to pursue them then, it’s like my inner child throwing a tantrum and spitefully doing the opposite or not doing anything at all. I don’t like when other people have or put pressure or expectation on me and since I did that to myself for so many years, it’s an overwhelming feeling of “maybe I shouldn’t try or I’ll always need to perform”.

DAY-YUM.

If you’re looking to find some peace of mind this holiday season, ESPECIALLY before the new year hits, then this is the episode for you, girl!

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Achievement vs. Perfectionism…what’s the difference?
  • Why it’s important to be open to changes
  • Understanding who’s setting these expectations
  • Learning what it is that YOU want, versus what someone else wants for you

Notes To Self Segment - 003: Uncertainty gives me anxiety

25m · Published 27 Nov 13:00

Uncertainty gives me anxiety

MORE SPECIFICALLY, feeling uncertain about what other people are thinking gives me anxiety.

Does he like me?
Does she not want to be my friend anymore?
Does my boss think I suck at my job?

It's exhausting to be in a constant state of GUESS MODE.

Welcome to the 3rd episode of “Notes To Self”, a segment of Found Family Podcast. “Notes To Self” are literally notes that I’ve written to myself on the Notes app on my iPhone where I admit my worst fears, talk about my triggers, and word vomit limiting beliefs as well as life-changing revelations on my recovery journey. Get ready to REAL talk, girl. Coz shit’s about to get real.

Notes To Self on April 12, 2017 says:
"ask more questions to gather information about how and why someone is feeling a type of way. Don't assume. Don't fill in the blanks with the story you make up in your own mind. It'll drive you crazy"

Can I get an AY-MEN?!

Girl, keep reading.

Things we talk about today:

  • Simple steps to GAIN CLARITY
  • Why it's easier to make assumptions rather than ASKING
  • Managing anxiety in a POSITIVE and CONSTRUCTIVE way

Notes To Self Segment - 002: I’m Not Smart Enough

27m · Published 20 Nov 13:00

You're afraid to take your first step
You feel like you can't make a difference
You feel like you're not as smart as others around you

Can you relate to any of these limiting beliefs?

Welcome to the 2nd episode of “Notes To Self”, a segment of Found Family Podcast.

Notes To Self on January 8, 2017 says:
"I don't have enough information to share with others. I don't have a PHD or a Masters or years of experience in this field. Holding me back that I don't know how to share or what's the right way to share or if I have enough background to share. Being overwhelmed with step 1. What is step 0? Then I get frustrated and overwhelmed to even begin a project that then I procrastinate and run away from myself and ignore it all"

(Yes, I recognize that note isn't proper grammar LOL)

Here are some of the things we'll soul chat about today:

  • Learning how to take your first step by sharing your own personal experiences
  • Pushing through the limiting belief of "not enough"
  • Recognizing that we have the ability to learn new things and that feeling "lack" in an area is only temporary

Notes To Self Segment - 001: I see myself as a burden to other people

31m · Published 13 Nov 13:00

You feel like a burden.

You feel like you’re carrying heavy baggage into your relationship.

You feel like others around you don’t always want to be around you.

Can you relate to any of these limiting beliefs?

Welcome to the 1st episode of “Notes To Self”, a segment of Found Family Podcast.

The truth is, I want my boyfriend and my friends to think that “I have my shit together”. So, one of the Notes that I left myself on March 14th says this: “I see myself as a burden to other people. Anytime that I feel like the luggage I bring into the relationship is too heavy or not something that someone would want to “deal with” I get anxious. I think this is because my mom made me feel like a burden. Example: she’d buy me something and then make me feel like it was something that took away time and energy for her so I’d feel badly about it, even if I didn’t even want the thing to begin with”

Woof. That’s deep.

Why do you feel like you’re a burden?

What deeper issue is rooted under the layer of you feeling this way?

Here are some of the things we’ll soul chat about today:

  • Took away my power, took away my voice, took away my options
  • Luggage will inevitably be brought into your relationships. They key here is ACCEPTING the luggage and understanding that you have the power to “unpack” the luggage and “swap” things in the luggage.
  • Guilt and shame are LEARNED.
  • Self awareness is the most important THING in transformation

PS CORRECTION WHEN I GET TO THE PART ABOUT DINOSAURS (you’ll get it when you listen) Paleontology is the study of fossils, while archaeology is the study of human artifacts and remains.

009: Intrusive Thoughts - have you ever thought of them in this way?

13m · Published 16 Oct 12:00
Do you struggle with intrusive thoughts? Did you ever think that TRUST had anything to do with your intrusive thoughts? After a simple and yet profound soul chat with my boyfriend, someone who does not struggle with OCD, I felt the lightbulb above my head! He shared with me the thoughts he has when, for example, he leaves our apartment. I asked him questions like, “Do you second guess if you locked it? Do you need to go back to see if it’s locked?” You might be surprised to hear his reply! This episode is short, sweet, and to the point. I hope it helps light the same bulb over your head as it did mine :) Remove the POWER that you’re giving to your thoughts STOP ADDING TO THE FIRE (you’ll understand when you listen to the episode!) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/foundfamily/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/foundfamily/support
