During the weekend, a 40-year-old mother was arrested for allegedly stabbing her children while her house was on fire.

Paulding County emergency services received a call about a domestic disturbance and fire at 776 Woodwind Drive in Rockmart on June 24 at 9:19 p.m. A "female who was inside the home attempted to stab its occupants," said the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Several law enforcement agencies assisted, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the State Fire Marshal, Paulding County Fire Investigators, and Paulding County Detectives, in extinguishing the fire and rescuing the occupants.

Seven juveniles were found inside the home, and two of them - a 3-year-old and a 9-month-old - were pronounced dead. According to reports, they suffered apparent stab wounds. The hospital also treated three other children, ages 5, 9, and 11. A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old did not appear to be injured, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

The 5-year-old died as a result of injuries, according to the statement. Nine-year-old is in critical but stable condition.

Darlene Brister, the children's mother, was arrested and charged with malice murder. There are likely to be additional charges, according to WAGA-TV.

The Paulding County Jail records indicate Brister is being held without bond.

In an alleged kidnapping, a 73-year-old man forced a woman to wear a leash around her neck after kidnapping a couple.

A hiker called 911 on June 17 at 8:10 a.m. to report seeing two other hikers being held at gunpoint near the 3600 block of South Oak Way, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. According to reports, the witness remained on the line until deputies arrived and provided updates.

Despite locating the couple, deputies learned that the suspect, Kerry Endsley, was still at large. He was reportedly confronted at gunpoint soon after they found him. Deputies say Endsley ignored their commands and pointed a stun gun at them after pulling out a gun from his waistband - later determined to be a stun gun. One deputy shot at Endsley, but failed to hit him, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. According to reports, a second deputy struck Endsley with his Taser.

Upon arrest, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

In their statement, the couple told deputies they saw a man kneeling on the ground tying his shoe while walking along the trail. As they walked by him, he reportedly pointed his gun at them. It was alleged that Endsley "ordered the female to the ground and tethered her to a nylon leash."

A male victim got Endsley's gun out of his hands and fled with his wife, according to reports.

The victims are reportedly familiar with Endsley. He was not recognized by the couple because he "had altered his physical appearance and disguised himself.", according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

In the past, he allegedly harassed the female victim. Even a restraining order has been issued against him.

The charges against Endsley include second-degree kidnapping, felony menacing, and violating a restraining order.

Upon finding the body of a 64-year-old man on the golf course property, a 57-year-old man faces murder charges.

On June 7, shortly before 6 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to a report of a deceased person on the Baywood Golf Course property near Long Neck Road and Banks Road. The Delaware News Journal reports that authorities found Lewis Fetrow's body covered in a tarp under a tree. Several days before the victim's death, police say he had been stabbed multiple times.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit identified Michael Klein as the suspect after further investigation.

Klein told an acquaintance on June 4, a few days before Fetrow's body was found, that he had "killed a man near a golf course" and "stabbed him multiple times."

A friend reportedly told authorities that Klein went by the nickname "Skinhead M. Klein" and that he had blood on his shorts and a "large pocket knife."

Police obtained a warrant charging Klein with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony on June 16. The warrant was obtained while Klein was already in jail for an unrelated offense.

Klein initially told police he saw two Black people stabbing Fetrow as he hid in the bushes, the Delaware News Journal reports. However, court documents obtained by the Delaware News Journal allege Fetrow’s DNA was discovered on Klein’s shoes.

Klein remains held in the Sussex Correctional Institution on $1,060,000 bond.
